Attendance was DOWN at the Calgary Stampede this year. I wonder if it's because people don't want to see horses and cows be abused and die in rodeo events? Stampede should go animal-free.

The @calgarystampede rodeo is an utter embarassment. Another horse died in the chuckwagons and they just offered condolences to the family of the rider who KILLED the horse instead of expressing any sympathy for the animal. Borderline sociopathic conduct.

An in-depth story about a 'horrifying' horse mistreatment case in Ontario. Sadly, animal neglect os SO common but largely undetectable since authorities don't proactively inspect conditions. via @ElliotLakeToday.

Is office air conditioning sexist?. Many office thermostats are informed by a decades-old formula based on the metabolism of a 40-year-old man. Where does that leave women?

Did you know that anyone can open up a roadside zoo in Ontario, WITHOUT a license? Get all the details here in this great piece by @KupermanLeah.

Ontario’s lax regulations have made the province the “wild west” for exotic animals. But as public concern over animal welfare grows, some zoos are buckling under the pressure. Read my latest for @TheLocal_TO "End Times at Ontario’s Roadside Zoos?" .

Meanwhile, we had an epic rally over the lunch break! So many people out on a brutally hot day to push back against ag gag laws.

The government finished its argument not long ago and now a farm industry employment lobby group (intervener) is arguing. Nothing too interesting, they are pro-ag gag.

Government lawyer Robin Basu is up first. So far the gov’s position is that whistleblowers cause disease risks and other harm—contradicted by the evidence in the case and the finding of Koehnen J in the court below.

At the Ontario Court of Appeal today defending @AnimalJustice’s victory last year—we defeated the province’s ag gag law as unconstitutional. The province is appealing & trying hard to reinstate it. Wish us luck! Glad to have co-applicants @JessLReid & Louise Jorgensen joining.

Ontario’s dangerous ag gag law is BACK in court, after much of it was struck down as unconstitutional last year. Today, we'll be fighting in court to defend this monumental legal victory for animals & freedom of expression! ✊🐷 #StopAgGagLaws.

Glad to see The Animal Law Foundation tackle fake advertising - pervasive on meat packages. If you see grassy fields, the animals probably don't experience that.

We often see images of happy animals in advertisements and packaging on animal products, but that’s just not the truth…. 85% of farmed animals in the UK are reared in industrial farms and yet of those investigated, 84.09% of the websites of producers of animal products and 100%

Well this sucks. Leaf blowers should be outlawed and it's disappointing most city councillors won't protect our city from these gas-guzzling, maddening machines.

Council takes a quick vote on the noisy matter of leaf blowers. Direction to go forward with a public education campaign instead of pursuing a ban on two-stroke engine equipment CARRIES 18-5.
