Great news! The East Bay cities of Berkeley, Pinole & Richmond have been named "prohousing communities" for addressing the housing crisis. That makes 6 cities (!) in my Senate district to receive the prohousing designation. Earlier, Emeryville, El Cerrito, & Oakland were honored.

In a historic move, Pinole is now the first city in Contra Costa County to ban the development of new gas stations and the expansion of existing gas stations. We will keep working to end our reliance on fossil fuels and transition into a sustainable, clean energy community.

I was inspired to propose this after conversations with our small business owners who were struggling financially after the peak of the pandemic and having to deal with burdens associated with crime. With our community’s support, we can get this off the ground in 2024.

CPTED is a data-proven method to reduce property crime and general criminal activity. Combining this with aesthetic improvements to our storefronts will support our small businesses, revitalize Pinole, and offer a sustainable alternative to solely increasing policing.
