Attending the great @Trauma2021 Australasian Trauma Society conference - some fantastic presentations from @kvallmuur, @DrBenBeck, @ChristeyGrant and others. The main issue is watching my own pre-recorded presentation. Tempted to ask questions around the obvious limitations...

To all the Tweets out there 'realising' and pointing out that Mad Max was set in 2021... don't be ridiculous. If movies could predict the future with any degree of accuracy, my flying DeLorean should be just coming out of warranty now. Happy New Year all! #optimism #MadMax

There hasn't been much footy this year due to COVID, but I'm thrilled that after a long journey @doctorwozza, @TraumaHelen and I have a new paper published - An evaluation of the presentation and severity of Australian football injury in children.

Domestic violence and health worker abuse are inexcusable, but increasing due to #COVID19. Australia needs a Chief Psychological Officer. #PrimeMinister #scomo #chiefpsychologicalofficer #genosinternational https://t.co/DnVg4KnaXj

Trauma centres across Australasia have been hit hard by staff cuts or redeployments due to #COVIDー19 - it's believed that there will be less serious injury because fewer people are out and about. What if they're wrong? Our health system can and must multitask.

Victoria's road fatalities over the past month have been higher than the same period last year despite COVID-19 restrictions. MUARC's Max Cameron tells @theage that alcohol sales are up and less traffic may lead to motorists driving at higher speeds: https://t.co/8LTfA9hZXr

Hey #Melbourne. Seeing an increase in kiddo trauma from unsafe activity. This is not the time for motorbikes, jumping from heights and falling from monkeybars. An admission to hospital for trauma could lead to a loss of important resources for other kids who really need it.

Been isolating at home with my wife & kids for a week now. For my contribution to home schooling my kids (aged 6 & 4) I chose the most obvious thing - creating a shot-by-shot recreation of the jet pack sequence from THUNDERBALL out of LEGO. [turn sound on] #JamesBond @LEGO_Group

See last tweet... and then there's this. We are in a war with #COVIDー19 and a societal - not just health or political - response is needed.

@doctorahmad75 We need models but we also need a more holistic, whole of government approach including mental health, financial support for the jobless, re-purposing of manufacturing industry for critical supplies and economic solutions.

Epidemiology has never had such a massive role to play in government decision-making worldwide. But the UK in particular backflipped spectacularly when the evidence changed. To be accurate, we need more #COVIDー19 testing! Good article.

Are we relying too much on models to guide epidemic response? Less emphasis on CORE public health practices. An interesting article on mathematics of life and death: How disease models shape national shutdowns and other pandemic policies.
