This exposes the truth that intellectual property rights have no logical or ethical underpinnings. By all means reward creation. But do not allow the power to legally enforce long-term or indefinite claims upon public or non-profit use.

No need. Govts have compulsory licensing powers that can be used without any need to abolish the rights. without the rights we’d be disincentivising nthe development of new treatments.
