Hey
@ROPOS_ROV
, you made my day with this zoom on this Rossia megaptera bobtail squid. Sooo cute! Just wish there had been a purple potato zoom too.

Stethopristes. This fish is adorable. Its coloration is also very on point...that "soap bubble" coloring is viral on social media.

Just took this one yesterday. One of our thousands of local parrots that reside in parts of Southern California. Sadly many are endangered in their native habitat, but they are thriving here. That may well be key to the species' survival.
Squid!!! Absolutely stunning captures of this glass squid, Taonius borealis. Life in the midwater is so incredible & I am so grateful for the technology & opportunity to witness these dives and discoveries in real time.

This was a pretty awesome sight to see as D2 got to the seafloor! It's like it was waiting for us. We thought maybe a strawberry squid but I saw that Mike V identified it as Stigmatoteuthis dofleini.

Holy crap. A plastic bag of trash, looking remarkably like a rock, 463m down on the sea floor. It has been colonized by crabs, brittle stars, polychaetes, and probably more. We’re all thinking the worst about what’s in the bag.

What is going on with this crab & coral? Olympic torch bearer? Antenna for better reception to stream the Olympics? Victory coral? Fashion statement? Juan Fernandez king crab

I was given a precious gift: I saw a wild baby

being born late one afternoon. The light was tough & I didn't want to get too close & draw attention to it, but here are some photos, hopefully not too graphic

or the other way around, but these 2 families across the pond have become very dear to me. Here’s the hand knit Alex & his owl Willow doll I won in an auction to help fund Alex’s cancer treatment in the USA. 🦉❤️
The sweetest little octopus.🐙 There was a decent sized scale worm under it that you can see in the photos. Not sure if it was hiding or about to be dinner. Or maybe they're just seafloor buds.

I was going to say the same thing, so I'm piling on here. Throat injuries are NOT to be taken lightly. Please get checked out ASAP. And I am so sorry this happened.
One thing I hear a lot is the surprise at how big
#seaotters
really are, especially since most people rarely see them out of the water. Southern sea otters can be up to 4 ft long, with females weighing up to 50lbs & males up to 70lbs.
#MorroBay
Ipnops is just so cool. And yes, those are its extremely modified flat eyes. To give an idea of size, those two green laser dots are 10cm (about 4in) apart.

It was the middle of the night and I was listening more than watching, but still didn't catch the name of this fish. A rattail of sorts?

For those who wonder why I'm obsessed with

, it's for moments like this: seeing a deepstaria enigmatica jellyfish for the first time, & watching it morph into so many different shapes, like a deep-sea lava lamp. So cool! What a gift. Because science!

OhEmGeeeeee! I can't stand the cuteness! Japetella octopus. 🐙This one really posed for us this time. I think it might be the 4th one we've seen this season.

Pretty sure everyone on board & watching was holding their breath for over an hour & there was a collective exhale once Argus was safely on deck. Welcome home, pal! Thanks for holding on tight to your Herc balloon. Well done, team!💛

You can see the pup is still in the amniotic sac. Mom is cleaning it off. At first she was flopping the pup around & I was afraid it was dead, but then it cried out. To see my favorite animal being born while dealing w/ my own personal grief is a gift I'll treasure forever.❤️🦦
A sea pig, which is a type of sea cucumber, going for a roll on the sea floor at 3200m. Fun fact: sea pigs are found in all the world’s oceans, but you’ll probably never see one, other than via live-streamed dives.

Even down at 3200m we see human disturbance. Last night these 2 soda cans were found about 6 minutes apart 50 miles offshore on Davidson Seamount. Pepsi from the 70s, Diet Coke is a more recent vintage. We need to do better. 🐙

! Here are a just a few of my favorite wildlife encounters. I consider myself so lucky every time I have a magical moment like these.
@KellyBrenner
Stopped at a park along the central coast. Noticed movement at edge of cliff. A little chocolate chip baby bird pops out, my 1st ever baby Western Gull. No one else around, just me & the wobbly baby bird less than 10 feet away. Then its 2 siblings popped out. Absolutely magical❤️
I even have lizards on my tree! Singing geckos, in fact. One year I had matching Christmas cards that said Geck the Halls. 😂🦎

Newborn sea otter getting groomed on top of Mama. 💜🦦 Morro Bay CA
Sea otters don't have blubber so they rely on their extremely dense, water resistant fur to provide insulation by trapping air between their skin and fur. This requires spending a major amount of time grooming.
Never doubt your ability to have an impact on a stranger, especially when out in nature. Sharing our joy & passion for birds/wildlife/nature/conservation can change people’s lives. I just received this message and I’m 😭❤️.
