OSPR crew patrolled Lake Tahoe this week in search for additional sunken boats from Saturday’s severe weather event. The crew used sonar technology in some of the deeper locations. No additional impacted vessels were found.

OSPR staff led an unannounced drill this week with industry partner Clean Harbors at Lake Ming in Kern County. The drills ensure oil spill response organizations are prepared to respond to spills in a timely manner. The drill proved to be a success.

CDFW-OSPR staff took part in Robinson Rancheria’s Shigom Day yesterday. The festivities included a nature walk and discussions about native species, the Clear Lake watershed, and the role of good fire. Tribal members also learned about OSPR’s programs and grant opportunities.

OSPR staff led a refresher oil spill equipment and boom deployment training with the County of Lake Watershed Protection District and the City of Lakeport. Both agencies maintain an OSPR-granted response trailer as part of California’s first line of defense against local spills.

Trinity County received a new response equipment trailer this week, made possible by an OSPR grant. The grant program aims to help local jurisdictions protect their environmental and economical resources in the initial phase of a spill, before cleanup crews can reach the scene.

OSPR crew responded to 24 ft vessel being salvaged in Sacramento River. Vessel broke apart & spilled est. 20-40 gal of product. Warmer weather helped evaporate product, which produced only a minimal layer of sheen. No observed impacts to wildlife. Containment boom deployed.
