Texas State Employees Union (CWA Local 6186) - The strong, united voice of Texas state employees.

Joined May 2009
As @CWAUnion reaffirms the fight for strong, well-funded public media nationwide, workers here in Austin are gearing up for contract negotiations this week. Public media matters, nationally and locally. Let’s make sure @austinpbs & @acltv are places where workers can thrive.

Texas has unions! They're organized by working people like you and me. #TxUnionStrong 64% of Texans recognize #unions are good for workers. BUT, the powerful few undermine workers and our unions to keep the prosperity that we create in their hands.👇 https://t.co/EiaoMLDIsF

✴️We call on @JCHartzell to respond to the @Faculty_UT Council resolution for more transparency, better communication & amnesty for protestors @utaustin. We call on the Faculty Council to ask Hartzell to respond in an OPEN meeting in the very near future. #SharedGovernance
NEW: @UTAustin’s Faculty Council passed a new resolution this morning on the "responses to on-campus protests." 62% voted yes, 21% voted no and 17% abstained. It calls for more transparency from UT over the decision to call in Texas DPS and amnesty for UT-affiliated protesters.

UT Austin administration terminated a lecturer who has taught at the university for 18 years for his involvement with last week’s protest on campus. This is unacceptable. https://t.co/3eaCvUDlYk

An important statement from the Chair of the Board of Regents, claiming responsibility for decisions made to deploy force @UTAustin & other @utsystem institutions of higher education, & doubling down on this approach to student protests. We respectfully disagree, as is our right.
#NEW: From today's @utsystem Board of Regents meeting, Chair Kevin Eltife says, "This board has been proud of how this has been handled on all our campuses." Also says "Divestment is not an option," and criticizes calls for no confidence in leaders, including @JCHartzell.

Texas may be risking the futures of our public sector workers. #TxLege has tried to limit public pension funds from investing in clean energy projects — even when it's in their best interests. 📌 Learn more @txclimatejobs webinar on March 26: https://t.co/237oBf8jtr

Our fight for a fair future starts with our state workforce. Without strong, competitive wages for our state workers, it is impossible for Texans to receive the high-quality services they deserve #ourcommongood #txlege

Two days ago, 37 State Reps & I urgently appealed to Gov. Abbott for 122,700 ERS retirees who've waited 20+ years for a pension raise. Yet, they were ignored in the special session call. We must do better—pay our teachers, fund our schools, & support our retirees. #txlege
