The National Women’s History Month’s theme for 2024 celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme recognizes women who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions.

Jordan Peele started his career as an actor and comedian but solidified himself as a cultural staple as a filmmaker. His films are categorized as satirical horror, but many of Peele’s themes are all too real for Black Americans in this country. #Blackhistorymonth #BlackArtists

Kendrick Lamar's lyrics reflect the systemic racism Black Americans are facing. Hip hop has heavily influenced American culture since the 1980’s and Lamar’s Pulitzer win was a red blinking light to the naysayers that rap is not only music, but a linguistic art form. #blackartists

Kara Walker rose to popularity with paper silhouette cutouts depicting racism. Her work has been controversial as it clearly depicts racist stereotypes juxtaposed with a classic silhouette artform. “I have no interest in making a work that doesn’t elicit a feeling.”-Kara Walker.

Art, like most things, originated in Africa. If you have pictures hanging on your walls, listen to music, read books, or watch movies you are a consumer of art. This is why we are excited to celebrate the theme for 2024’s Black History Month: African Americans and the Arts.
