Happy Fourth, Connecticut! 🇺🇸

Yesterday marked the seventh consecutive year of ending the fiscal year with a budget surplus. After years of fiscal crisis, we’ve gotten our fiscal house in order. Now our mission is to be keep that progress going while also making Connecticut more affordable.

Connecticut first responders put their lives on the line for us every day, and we need to be there for their families if they lose their life protecting and serving our state. Starting tomorrow when the Fallen Hero Fund takes effect, I’m proud we will be.

Our first responders are always there for us when we need them, and we need to be there for their families if they lose their life protecting and serving our communities.

Deeply proud to join @GovNedLamont as he signed our bill creating the Connecticut Fallen Hero Fund which provides immediate financial support and health insurance to the family of any Connecticut police officer, firefighter or EMT/Paramedic killed in the line of duty.

Over the last few years, we’ve gotten Connecticut out of fiscal crisis. Now we need to make it more affordable. Great to be with the @Valley_Chamber this morning to talk about how we can work together to lower costs, build on our progress and take CT to the next level.

So why is Clinton PD joining a big deal?. Because new group's joining shows our reforms are working. And I'm really proud that the work we're doing is helping to both preserve things like public safety AND save taxpayers money in cities and towns across our state.

These reforms will save taxpayers in 2/3 of our cities & towns over $700 million over the next 30 years. And they strengthen this pension plan to both preserve it for existing members but also to make it an attractive option for towns not in MERS.

107 of our 169 towns are part of MERS and when I took office, MERS was in trouble. Contribution rates for our towns (and therefore property taxpayers) had risen by 75% in the preceding 5 years. So I set out to reform the plan, and we did.

Big news: Clinton Police Department just became the first new group to join the municipal pension plan I run called MERS in 16 (!) years. Hang with me for a second and let me tell you why this matters to you:.

Tried to give the TLDR on municipal pension reform to @BShactman… . Proud of my office’s continued efforts to reform CMERS for the first time in decades, ensuring pensions are sustainable and there for our future public servants.

Proud of the work the Comptroller’s Healthcare Cabinet continues to do to make better access and affordability a reality here in CT. Thanks to the legislature for passing six of this year’s recommendations, and we look forward to them becoming law!.

Kicked off the week meeting with business leaders from northeast CT and then seeing some exciting housing and economic development projects in downtown Thompson.

💵strengthened @MyCTSavings to help more residents save for retirement. ⌚️🐶put the recs from our CSCU & cannabis commission audits into law to protect taxpayer dollars. 🧠added teeth to our mental health parity law so insurers can't cover mental health differently than physical.

🏙️passed our third major reform of the municipal pension system which saves taxpayers money and preserves the secure retirements for our first responders and town employees. 🚔🚒🚑created a Fallen Hero Fund to support families of first responders killed in the line of duty.
