We love the trees on the State Capitol grounds! They look great this time of year. Did you know there’s a descendant of the famous “Charter Oak Tree” at the Capitol? Come visit and see if you can find it!

Some say Governor William Buckingham's ghost has haunted the Connecticut State Capitol. We can't verify the legend ourselves - he's been pretty quiet. Come take a visit and see if you encounter him. You can try rubbing his statue's shoes for good luck! 📷= Brian Kutner

About sixty years later, a staff member was working in the same area, felt the room grow cold, and heard a loud noise. He remembered the story of Buckingham's ghost and made a quick exit. There haven't been more recent encounters reported so the ghost is a mystery!

The Lt. Governor was working late at night and reported a coldness in his office. When he looked up, what he believed to be the ghost of William Buckingham stood before him. The Lt. Governor immediately left the building and didn't stay later than 5pm afterwards.

Happy Halloween! Haunted happenings have been reported at other State Capitols. At the Connecticut State Capitol, we might have one of our own -- Governor William Buckingham's ghost. In the 1920s, a Lt. Governor reported encountering what he believed was Buckingham's ghost.
