@Icro_Meattini In summary, IORT isn’t needed because it doesn’t work well, and options like IMRT APBI which are widely available, excellent benefit/AE profile, cost effective, and even allow us to avoid more toxic treatments in women to improve their quality of life

Endocrine therapy was associated with a greater reduction in HRQOL, as measured by GHS, compared with radiotherapy at 24 months. While these interim results suggest radiotherapy might better preserve...

Our responsibility is to our patients, to ensure they’re well informed & to offer them safe, high quality care using the best available evidence. Media pieces can educate if they offer balanced perspectives rather than cherry-picked data serving a predetermined narrative. 1/2
Kudos to @ASTRO_org for pushing back on mainstream media misinformation about radiation therapy. This is the exact type of leadership we need at this time in history. @NehaVapiwala

@SameerKeoleMD @NehaVapiwala @RTendulkarMD @gmorgenson @NBCNews As someone who has spent their career treating breast cancer patients and someone who has treated patients with IORT, I would ask you to really look at the data from key trials and studies. The data DOES NOT support IORT from a patient perspective. #bcsm

@gmorgenson @NBCNews Evidence, not economics. Multiple randomized trials and reviews show higher local recurrence with IORT vs whole-breast RT. After 20+ years of research, no high-quality data support routine use—and no well-recognized surgical or radiation society recommends it.

@gmorgenson @NBCNews ASTRO is deeply disturbed by the inaccurate, inappropriate, and irresponsible NBC News piece on IORT. We feel this story harms care for breast cancer patients & have strongly rebutted it through our Breast Cancer Resource Panel & a letter from ASTRO CEO, Vivek S Kavadi, MD to NBC

Very concerned about this misleading article, IORT is not the answer https://t.co/nR9SleCO2f Our recently published study showed that IORT is inferior to partial breast irradiation: https://t.co/NtmAjWFroz Follow the data: @SameerKeoleMD @NehaVapiwala @RTendulkarMD

EDU-01 There is a reason we marked @drdavidpalma’s session with this. This is an educational session that I personally asked Dr. Palma to deliver. It is the essence of the meeting. How will our field expand? This is one way. Don’t miss it!

Great work led by @AniBommireddy in @AnnSurgOncol comparing 5 fraction PBI and IORT- takeaway is IORT has worse local control even among patients eligible for omission of RT. #bcsm #radonc
