Safer Calgary - Operation Order is about more than enforcement. It's about demonstrating to Calgarians that their concerns are being heard & acted upon. Our increased visibility downtown is deliberate: we are here, we are engaged & we are committed to making our city safer.

Today, the incredible team I’m privileged to lead was assigned to #OperationOrder, & as work allowed, I shared stories about the work they did to keep our community safe. In this thread, you can read stories of great community-oriented work done by our colleagues.

With our drug file finished, my team & I are now booking off for the night & returning home. But that’s not the end of #OperationOrder; as we head home, other officers from across #yyc are booking on to fill our place & continue working to keep our community safe. #SaferCalgary

My team is finishing their investigation into possible drug trafficking that included the seizure of over $500 worth of fentanyl, evidence of drug trade activities such as cash & drug packaging, & a weapon. As a result, we have laid several charges & executed arrest warrants.

Maintaining trust in the work we do is critical. That's why each of us is equipped with a body-worn camera, and our vehicles are equipped with camera systems as well. These systems help maintain accountability, preserve evidence, & document our actions.

In an effort to keep more police officers in the Downtown Core today, we have partnered with the Alberta Sheriffs, who are responsible for transporting our arrests to the Arrest Processing Section for the day. This is a huge time saver for us. #OperationOrder #SaferCalgary

Thanks to EMS for attending quickly to assess the person we have in custody. Balancing enforcement with care for people with complex issues is a daily challenge. We carry out compassionate enforcement thanks to well-established partnerships with support agencies.

The team are working on a charge package in relation to our earlier arrest. As a result of our investigation, this individual will be transported to our Arrest Processing Section for a bail hearing.

My team quickly learned that the person they were dealing with was wanted on several warrants. A search of their person incident to arrest located illegal drugs and a large knife that had been concealed in their waistband. #OperationOrder #SaferCalgary

We were waved down by a member of the public who requested assistance with an individual who was refusing to leave their premises and who had been aggressive.

We have made sure to pay attention to our shared transit spaces, and are currently working to ensure public safety by discouraging disorder and violence along the 7th Ave., LRT line. #SaferCalgary #OperationOrder

The best part of #OperationOrder so far has been the many great conversations with members of our community who have stopped us to say hi, share their concerns, or share stories of their daily experiences in our city.

As we continue our work in downtown Calgary with #OperationOrder, we are making sure to work our way into all the dark corners and shadowy hiding places. Everyone who lives in our community has the right to feel safe walking in our community, regardless of where that may be.

Several partner agencies, including peace officers from Calgary Transit, the City of Calgary, and the Alberta Sheriffs, have joined us today. In this case, we assisted Calgary Transit in restoring order on a train platform after an individual became aggressive. #OperationOrder

While patrolling a local hotspot, my team located an individual wanted on several criminal warrants. That individuals' warrants are being dealt with, and simultaneously, we are linking them up with support services to ensure they have a safe place to go. #operationorder

We split up to cover more ground, & located a person who was establishing an encampment in a dangerous spot. We were immediately joined by members of HELP team, who were able to provide some assistance. After ensuring there was a safe plan, we were on our way. #safercalgary

We have parked our car and are now walking the alleys and footpaths in our area. If you see us out and about today, feel free to stop and say hi. We’re here to listen. We’re here to help. We’re here to keep our community safe.
