January 10, 1917, the “Silent Sentinels” began protesting outside the White House of President Woodrow Wilson. Three women from Colorado Springs participated in the demonstrations: Dr. Caroline Spencer, Natalie Gray, and Berthe Arnold. To learn more:

January 8, 1898, the “Colorado City Iris” published a short biography of Street Commissioner C.W. Kinsman, a resident of Colorado City since 1862. Of note, they stated that Kinsman had left the state only once, “…when he went to New Mexico and returned as soon as possible.”
