Rear Adm. Melvin Smith met with Iceland’s Ambassador Svanhildur Valsdóttir in Norfolk to discuss defense coordination in the North Atlantic. Valsdóttir also toured USS Oregon (SSN 793) to learn more about submarine operations in the region.

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) presented the Commanding Officer Cmdr. Hector Marin and crew of the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS New Mexico (SSN 779) with an award recognizing the efforts of him and his crew during their most recent deployment.

Vice Adm. Rob Gaucher met with Royal Netherlands Navy leadership to deepen maritime cooperation. Topics included UUV-enhanced ASW, digital infrastructure, Arctic littoral operations, and next-gen missile systems. These efforts strengthen allied warfighting capabilities.
