Apologies for the poor alt text on this image, in human error 'send' was pressed too early. The image shows a close-up of a web browser with a web URL and a cursor pointing at the address.

David explains how a sighted person can scan read, pulling out key words, whereas a blind person has to listen or read out the whole message, so consider that with deadlines. He also emphasised the benefits of executive summaries to make our comms more accessible.

A question came in around time management and whether the amount of information being processed through a tablet or screen reader can be overwhelming and whether voice notes are helpful.
Don't forget, if you do have images, your alt text - a description of the image - so your audience is included and can get a sense of what is being shown.

@ClaireHalliwel1 The feedback loop is vital to show you're listening and keeping people updated. Engagement shouldn’t stop after the initial conversation—ongoing dialogue builds trust and stronger connections.

@ClaireHalliwel1 Print is not dead! A purely digital engagement strategy can miss out on reaching many people. Ensure your engagement plan is accessible to everyone and culturally diverse.

@ClaireHalliwel1 Another good example here from National Highways who spend time going to where their audience are and not where they want to be or waiting for people to come to them.

@ClaireHalliwel1 Just like any good communication project, it's all about the planning! Knowing and identifying your audience is key to delivering effective engagement.
