Classic nicknames #1 “The Butcher of Bilbao” Andoni Goikoetxea. The Athletic Bilbao centre-back became infamous for his crunching challenges on Maradona & Schuster in the 1980s.

Ludovic Giuly 🇫🇷 Lyon, 1996. Underrated player. Loved watching him at Lyon, Monaco & Barca.

Great to see Lens back and top of Ligue 1. Les Sang et Or (The Blood and Gold) are a cult club for us, with incredible support. Anyway, the Lens ‘80 sweatshirt is available from https://t.co/d67RvPYeO1 store. #rclens #sangetor

This cross with the outside of the boot from Enzo Scifo is something else 🔥 Headed home with aplomb by Walter Casagrande. #torinogranata #toro #sempreforzatoro 🎥 @80s90sfootball https://t.co/JcaeXVYJDe

Happy birthday Enzo Francescoli. Elegant Uruguayan playmaker nicknamed “El Príncipe" (the Prince) due to his style on the ball. Clubs: Montevideo Wanderers, River Plate, Racing Club Paris, Marseille, Cagliari, Torino.

Happy birthday to Pablo Aimar, best known for his time with River Plate, Valencia & Benfica. A fantastic Argentinian no.10, one of those really elegant players who seemed to glide across the pitch. Who knows how good he could’ve been without the injury problems he suffered.

One of our favourite moments in football. Used to watched it over & over when we were kids & then try and replicate it on the pitch. Never game a damn that Pelé actually missed it 😂 Brilliant commentary as well… 🎥 @Videos_TS1 https://t.co/9WBUVzZve1

Still the best football show ever. The BBC, ITV, C4 etc waste so much money on some absolute dross. Why can’t any of them reproduce something like this?

#OnThisDay in 1944 a Mönchengladbach legend was born, Günter Netzer. A great character of the 70s and one of the finest passers in the game's history.

Apparently SO l'Emyrne were protesting about a previous match so just kept kicking the ball in their own net from kick off!

#OnThisDay in 1885 Arbroath beat Bon Accord 36:0 in the Scottish Cup. It could have been more but they had 7 disallowed. It remained a record score for a professional match until AS Adema beat SO l'Emyrne 149:0 in 2002.
