There has been a lot of talk about player development recently. So why don't we take a look at the most successful academy system in Europe and how they do things.
Lets take a look at Leinster.
When you are paying over £1 a minute to watch Wales play rugby it is baffling so many decide to miss so much of the match in order to buy a £6 pint of piss.
The scapegoating will begin after this match. Individual players, coaches will be targeted.
We suggest Steve Phillips and Rob Butcher of the WRU should instead be on the recieving end of the inquisition and made to explain their reasons for hanging Welsh pro rugby out to dry.
In our hour of need when the pandemic started
@Cardiff_Rugby
without question gave up the Arms Park for the Dragons Heart Hospital
Now the club is in its hour of need looking for a bit of flexibility to quarantine in Cardiff
@WelshGovernment
won’t reciprocate.
That’s a poor show
A huge match for
@FAWales
today . It has to be said that our footballers offer an image of the nation many find far more resonant than that currently offered by the WRU.
Welsh football looks young and vibrant.
Welsh rugby? Out of date. Out of touch. Complacent.
It must change.
CF10 condemns the WRU tweet regarding Rhys Carre.
We accept a coach has the right to choose his players but do not accept this tweet was appropriate.
With an ongoing investigation into the culture of the WRU, this incident does nothing to restore faith in the organisation.
On a day when mother nature has shown one of her more stroppy sides, it feels appropriate to post a photo of what a human force of nature looks like.
#Holmesy
Amanda Blanc quit in November 2021 because she felt she was "not being listened to" and the WRU "needed modernisation".
Steve Phillips does not get to play the "before my time" card.
To celebrate
@cardiff_blues
unveiling the Wall of Legends, we're taking a look at some of the featured players, starting with one of the city's proudest sons, Terry Holmes.

We held our AGM tonight - we started the evening with a silent tribute to Peter Thomas and then members remembered him with their tributes 💙🖤 lots of respect for a great
@Cardiff_Rugby
man
Cardiff vs Newport has always been the greatest rivalry. Terry Holmes made his Cardiff debut against Newport at Rodney Parade in 1975.
"Being born in Cardiff, it was a dream come true, especially taking over from the great Gareth Edwards. Fortunately, we won the game as well."
"We weren't allowed to go far enough."
Good to hear Gareth Davies on Wales Today speaking about his attempts to modernise the union and the stiff opposition he faced from within.
Welsh rugby can't be held back any longer. The WRU must finally modernise.
A shout out to Harri Millard.
Unable to be offered a contract just months ago. Comes back to the club, and playing out of position plays his heart out for 80 minutes.
It does not go unnoticed. 💙🖤
Welsh rugby is dying! Nobody wants to watch! Nobody cares!
So say the misery fans.
Yeah well anyway we just checked the tickets left for the Scarlets game and there are only 9 spots still available on the South terrace and not many seats.
Another great CAP day out in store.
Rugby men would all like to say they value plain speaking and telling it like it is.
Tonight, Hayley Parsons tells it like it is.
We all need to listen.
Thank you Hayley. We're proud that you're a Cardiff board member.
Another great European memory. On this day in 2005 Jonah Lomu returned to rugby to play for
@cardiff_blues
against Calvisano in the Heineken Cup. Out of rugby for 2 years after kidney surgery, he went on to play 10 times for Cardiff, becoming a firm favourite at the Arms Park.
Hayley Parson's powerful letter described the relationship between the Regions and the Union as like being in an abusive relationship.
For all their talk of reform, they fall at the first hurdle. "Hold their feet to the fire". We expected so much better from you
@NigelWalkerWRU
Steve Phillips first joined the WRU in 2007. This will be his 16th year at the organisation.
He is immersed in their toxic culture. He is a product of it. And he has benefitted from it.
He must now resign from the WRU and allow the process of reform to begin.
Get on with it.
Nigel Walker asked where the WRU's plan for the future was, as there didn't seem to be one.
He's now the WRU's Performance Director.
We're looking forward to seeing his plan.
(End of thread. Thanks for reading)
There's no way out of this for the WRU. This is something that will not be forgotten. It can't be covered up with a good 6 Nations.
Welsh rugby is now associated with male chauvinism, bullying and disrespect. All thanks to the WRU.
They can reform, or let that stain remain.
Next to feature from the

Wall of Legends is someone that you'll all be very familiar with, but I just wanted an excuse to share some of his highlights...

I can't believe I'm going to say this about a Newport/Dragons player, but
@ashton_hewitt
is an exceptional young man, role model, activist and - worst of all - a bloody good rugby player!
Such is my admiration, I'm not even sure I'd resent him scoring a winner against us.
Why are you still here Steve Phillips?
Every minute you remain in post is time wasted.
You put your own interests ahead of Welsh rugby. You do not deserve the position you have been handed.
Resign.
For the time being, we are not just blue and blacks. We are the amber of Gwent, the white of Ospreylia and the scarlet of West Wales.
We are united in support of all our players across Wales.

#saveourgame
Tonight, we have a renewed respect for everyone who has worked to progress Women's rugby in Wales.
We knew it was a hard job. Tonight demonstrates the extent to which they've had to push uphill at the WRU.
They're bigger people than those who have disrespected them can ever be.
If you're concerned that the U20s result may be a symptom of a system that lacks planning and investment, please don't worry.
We hear Steve Phillips is soon to announce that the WRU hotel is planning some excellent brunch and spa deals.
We welcome news now being reported in the Sunday papers that Steve Phillips has resigned from the WRU.
This has been a long time coming and was the only real choice left open to him.
It's important that this marks the start and not the end of the much needed changes at the WRU.
Good morning from CF10, where we're thinking about unsung heroes.
Not the big names. Not the famous faces.
But the glue that sticks a club together.
Lets start with the blindside's blindside. Never capped by Wales but 325 matches in Blue and Black over 3 decades.
Bob Lakin.
We don’t recall seeing a single tweet from
@WelshRugbyUnion
about the pro clubs’ European campaign let alone wishing the four teams well.
The governing body should be asking why the lack of success and what they need to do.
Or is it, they simply don’t care about the club game?
A sad day for rugby not just in Cardiff but across the world . An iconic player, a fantastic bloke and an ambassador for the sport we love.
@samwarburton_
Forever a Cardiff hero
How lucky were Cardiff rugby supporters to see this partnership at the Arms Park? And how lucky were Wales when they lost a player as brilliant as Barry John and were able to bring in Phil Bennet?
Steve Phillips cannot survive this.
Every minute he stays in post, he prolongs the agony for Welsh rugby.
The stain this scandal has left will only lift when we see full reform of the WRU. The process must begin with his removal.
Go now Steve Phillips. Let us begin to move on.
Sometimes its easy to forget what can happen to rugby players in the game we love.
@samwarburton_
you have always had our respect. Get fit soon, looking forward to seeing you back playing at the

Gutted to hear Cardiff Blues legend
@Jnavidi
has been ruled out of the rest of the RWC. Has been a mainstay of the Welsh backrow this season bringing power, tenacity and an excellent rugby brain.
He can look back on his campaign with pride. Diolch Josh.
166 tries in 194 appearances.
That's 166 tries... in 194 appearances.
Gerald Cordle was the very definition of a try-scoring machine during the '80s, getting 30+ tries in three consecutive seasons.

Fair play to Ben Thomas.
Since his return from injury, he's become a mainstay of this side, starting 10 consecutive matches and playing a full 80 in every single one.
Whether at full-back, or centre, he looks calm, composed and classy
Da iawn
@Cardiff_Pathway
👏
All joking aside, Steve Phillips surely must realise that he has to go now? Even if his chairman still hasn't.
Every day this only becomes worse for the WRU. This isnt one of those things that just goes away.
He must now step aside.
This is a hard one to take. The WRU have not yet paid for the use of our players and now it directly blames the pro clubs for the national team's performance.
What exactly is the agenda here?
How long have we been saying that the WRUs policies have been storing up problems for the future? A decade?
Maybe this weekend is the time people finally accept that we need huge changes in the attitude toward professional rugby.
Hopefully it isn't too late.
If it was ever in doubt, if any rugby club has soul it's Cardiff rugby club. This club has huge heart and the past two weeks have confirmed that.
Not only that, we've seen a couple of new young stars born.
🖤💙
It seems that after 17 years of confusion and chaos, Cardiff Rugby might be about to organise properly on and off the field.
Here
@SouthTerracer
makes the case for a a one club approach, bringing meaning to the phrase 'Strength Through Unity'.
A word for Sam Moore.
A player who really has had to come through adversity. So many injuries throughout his career. He's been dismissed and written off.
He's having a superb game.
We're better than this.
Wales is full of people with the skills and integrity to reform the WRU for the better and create a dynamic organisation that can drive the game forward.
But that is not what we have.
The preservation of this toxic WRU culture drags us all down.
Off the back of exciting news yesterday evening CF10 Towers has received a leaked image of what the redeveloped CAP will look like.
We are assured the southern terrace will still be freezing and its northern sibling a place for the more discerning supporter.
TV star, Cardiff rugby coach, outside half, spiritual leader and potential Lord Mayor Dan Fish is also a CF10 member.
If you would like to be like Dan Fish and join the trust, click the link above.
Assuming we can believe him this time, an Arms Park icon retires from playing at the end of this season.
This Saturday vs Merthyr at CAP will be his final regular semi pro league game.
Yes. You have only 2 (hopefully 3) opportunities to see the great Dan Fish play.
We are all sending our best wishes to Peter Thomas. His contribution to
@Cardiff_Rugby
is immense and we hope he knows how much it means to us 💙🖤
#rugbyfamily
A shout out to Evan Lloyd.
21 year old, who only last season was playing number 8 and has been converted to hooker.
Made his first team debut, in his new position, against a huge South African pack.
Threw himself into absolutely everything. He will only get better.
So
@BBCScrumV
show highlights of the Cardiff Blues game against Connacht.
Amazingly they make no mention of the poor officiating and the two unbelievable tries which were allowed.
Unless the media highlight such matters the Pro14 will never address this issue.
No other union in World Rugby has dropped it's professional game into such an unacceptable situation.
Also, no other union has chosen to prioritise a "roof walk" and a beer brand at this time of all times.
Incompetent. Complacent. Not fit for purpose.
Continuing on the Walk of Legends...
Mike Rayer joined Cardiff in 1984 and played 367 games in 15 seasons. He moved to Bedford in 1996 before re-joining Cardiff in 1998. On his return to the club he was instrumental in the setting up of the Cardiff Blues Academy.
Fantastic performance by our friends in the west tonight.
The professional players of Welsh rugby deserve so much more respect than they are currently recieving from our failing governing body.
A bit of a rant, but the last few days the anger over the situation facing the likes of Dmitri Arhip and Uilisi Halaholo, who have given so much to Welsh Rugby, has built to a crescendo.
A national embarrassment thanks to the WRU.
Credit to James Down who has quit his Russian rugby club saying:
"I made the decision I wasn't going to go back, for safety and because politically I don't agree with what is happening,"
Well done butt, hope you find a new club soon.
Rugby Union has been professional for 27 years.
Welsh rugby has spent much of that time hopping from crisis to crisis.
Over that time, the views of pro rugby fans have rarely been taken into account.
Perhaps it might be a good time to start?
It's a good thing the WRU are doing such a good job with the community game because they've spent two decades dragging Welsh pro rugby from crisis to crisis.
Oh community clubs are also furious with them?
Who is actually happy with the WRU?
What are the WRU actually good for?
Have you seen this man?
Steven is known to enjoy trips to New Zealand and Singapore in the midst of negotiations that affect everyone employed in Welsh professional rugby.
Please let us know if you spot him.
Looks like
@Cardiff_Rugby
will play Toulouse with a mix of internationals, squad and academy players. Dai is content.
There will be no doubt that all 23 selected will give everting for the badge and their team mates in quarantine.
Let’s
#PackCAP
and support the club and the boys.
“There’s enough money in the game in Wales to have four competitive professional sides but the WRU’s answer is not to invest in the game but to build a hotel and potentially cut a region.”
EXCLUSIVE- It’s my understanding that recommendations have been put forward to cut one of Wales’ four professional sides for the 2023/24 season. A decision on which one is expected over the next couple of months.
Congratulations to Nigel Walker.
As a player he was muvh admired at Cardiff. But his greatest contribution to Welsh sport could yet be taking the steps needed to finally modernise the WRU.
So much needs to be done.
THE ONLINE CARDIFF RUGBY HERITAGE MUSEUM IS NOW LIVE!
Over 800 pieces of history covering Cardiff RFC, Cardiff Blues, Wales and the general history of our great Arms Park.
Have a scroll through, you won’t regret it:
Two weeks ago Theo Cabango was an academy player with a few Welsh Premiership games under his belt.
Now, you start getting out of you seat whenever you see the ball coming toward his wing.
What a talent.
It's worth pausing when Gareth Anscombe reflects on the abuse people like him + Cuthbert received, and noting grief Halaholo received, because as fans but more importantly as people we need to be kind to the players and each other.
Makes life a lot better for everyone.

Why are you still here Steve Phillips?
Welsh rugby needs you to get out of the way so that genuine reform can take place.
You are now putting yourself ahead of the sport you claim to lead.
Look where you've lead us!
Resign.
