We can't risk another day where unhoused lives are at risk due to unnecessary police intervention or where people who need housing and services are criminalized and shuffled around by law enforcement, rather than given help and support by trained social workers and peers.

This will fund CART as originally envisioned, and will also create an opportunity to ensure the program is administered by the Department of Public Health, which is the most appropriate city agency.

In order to ensure that this does not serve as a replacement for the original model and that CART  is implemented in San Francisco as soon as possible,  the CART coalition is asking for $6.8m in the upcoming budget.

On May 5, 2023 the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) used funding allocated by the Board of Supervisors for the stakeholder designed Compassionate Alternative Response Team and instead awarded funding to Urban Alchemy for a program called Community Response Team (CRT).
