#CivilAirPatrol’s 25th national commander, Maj Gen Edward Phelka, assumed command Aug 26, 7 pm, in a time-honored ceremony in Detroit. Phelka and our new national vice commander, Brig Gen Regena Aye, were sworn in during a small ceremony. Watch it here:

This week I visited @CivilAirPatrol Blue Beret National Cadet Special Activity where they support @EAA Air Venture. But the program is about so much more - developing fantastic young leaders. This picture shows the words our cadets use to describe the experience. Awesome!

I was recently able to visit Hawk Mountain Ranger School where our @CivilAirPatrol cadets learn valuable wilderness search and rescue skills. These cadets are learning about land navigation. Awesome program! Awesome people!

My granddaughters learned about Navajo Code Talkers and the role they played in WW II. Then they helped me honor many of our fallen heroes. May your Memorial Day be meaningful.

Civil Air Patrol sponsors an award each year for the Air Force Academy graduating senior who is top performer in the Department of Military and Strategic Studies. Cadet Harley Morgan won the award this year. He will be going to Georgetown for his advanced degree. Congratulations!

This morning I was honored to present the CAP award to Air Force Academy graduating senior Campbell Mandela Anderson. Not only is he the top CAP graduate in his class, he is #1 overall! Hailing from Batavia NY, he's off to grad school and a bright future. Well done!

Thursday evening I was honored to present the Silver Medal of Valor, CAP's highest honor, to Major Randy and Lieutenant Kelli Hammit. A year ago they ran into harms way during a mass shooting. Pictured with them is one of the individuals they saved. Well done!
