This is why independent redistricting is so important. It doesn’t matter if J.D. Vance doesn’t like our congressional districts, because it’s not up to him. It's up to the people.

CA’s independent process resulted in maps drawn based on feedback from nearly 40,000 people across the state. Those districts improved representation for our residents and resulted in zero lawsuits, a highly unusual outcome for such a typically contentious process.

The commissioner selection process for the CRC is extensive. It ensures 5 Democrats, 5 Republicans, and 4 people who aren't registered with either of the two main parties — who are all qualified and free of conflicts of interest — are appointed to the commission.

In 2010, the VOTERS FIRST Act for Congress added the job of drawing Congressional districts to the Commission — another measure overwhelmingly approved by voters. The CRC is now a national model for redistricting & is the basis for proposals in other states. Because it works.

In November 2008, California voters passed the Voters FIRST Act, which allowed the creation of the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) to draw new district lines. This took the job out of the hands of the California Legislature and transferred it to the people.

Independent redistricting works because it puts people, not special interests or political parties, in control.

California’s current district maps are some of the fairest, most representative maps in the nation. Our current districts were drawn through independent redistricting — that means the people created these maps fair and square. Not politicians. Here's why it works ⬇️.

The gerrymander in California is outrageous. Of their 52 congressional districts, 9 of them are Republican. That means 17 percent of their delegation is Republican when Republicans regularly win 40 percent of the vote in that state. How can this possibly be allowed?.

Fair maps = fair representation. 🗺️. When politicians draw the lines, they protect their power, not our communities. Independent redistricting puts that power back where it belongs: with the people. 👉 Swipe to learn how it works and why it matters for California’s democracy.
