9. Clarify Commitments My first 3 agency clients failed to pay me. I was so pleased to get the work, I failed to get a clear commitment and ended up working for nothing. In a service business, be clear about your responsibilities and thiers.

7. Reflect/Review Regularly Plan, Do, Measure, Review. Over and Over and Over. Make it your M.O. Without review, you will struggle to collect the lessons from each experience. With programmed (regular) reviews, you can iterate and improve. This is how you develop IP.

4. Do Deep Work Learn about the Attention Residue, switching tasks has huge costs. • Always on, • always available, • means never being in a state of deep focus. A few focused hours every day will achieve more than 14 hours of all over the place.

3. Attenuate Alcohol A couple of drinks to alleviate stress can become a slippery slope. Over time booze blunts... you. Don't take your inspiration from drinking Don Draper. Your best work will be done with your synapses snapping and your eyes clear.

2. Manage Dopamine We all have a daily bank account of Dopamine, invest yours wisely. Leveraged, it's a fuel for growth. If you're a Dopamine trash bag, you'll squander your time and effort.

1. Cultivate Health A healthy business is sustained by a healthy founder. Brute force might be a strategy to get the flywheel spinning, but it's best used in sprints not sustainable in marathons. Manage your energy by managing your health.

The most underpriced principle in business; Repetition. As a young man, I took repeating actions to represent boredom. Now I see it as a path to growth, becoming and ultimately mastery.

"Don’t trust a man who works 14 hours a day on his business." From a mentor who had just offered to buy my business, a moment before. Shocked, that my work ethic didn't impress. Until he said if you can't get it done in 6 hours a day you're not very effective.
