1/ I am so tired of hearing "respecting other people's choice" when it comes to public health. One persons choice to ignore precautions affects the rights of everyone else to maintain their health. We don't allow this elsewhere. We banned smoking in public places. Why? It
2/ affects other people's health. Drinking and driving is illegal. Same reason. Speed limits, stop signs, crosswalks, railroad crossings. Probably 90% of our laws are to protect society and the majority follow them or there are consequences. We also follow many of them because
3/ they are morally right. The vast majority of us would be horrified to take someone's life because we took our eyes off the road or had a few too many drinks yet we shrug when thousands of people are dying from a virus we can help prevent. We put lifeguards in public pools to
4/ keep kids safe but we pack them into classrooms with no protections in the middle of a pandemic. We are horrified when there is a school shooting in the news but we are numb and uncaring for over 4k seniors who died from neglect and an effort to "save money". And we move on.
5/ If society continues to be selfish and self centred there is no doubt that we are finished as a species. Whether it be war, famine, disease or climate change we either learn to work together or we all sink together.

A lot of us are "tired" of people desperate to demonstrate their conformity to irrational new moral codes by pretending it was ever normal to believe that as an individual you are responsible for OTHER people's health.
@goingtogetugly
New moral codes? Tell me you don't understand the meaning of "society" without telling me you don't understand the meaning. Dumbest. Tweet. Ever.

Excellent thread. A child canโt bring a peanut butter sandwich to school because 1 child might be allergic, but that same child can attend school with Covid, unmasked, and potentially harm hundreds of people.
@ButlerLonney
There are costs and benefits to each layer of protection. In my opinion we held on to some layers (vaccine mandates) too long while lifting others too soon (masking rules in some indoor environments), or virtually ignoring them completely (improving indoor air quality).

How has Public Health in Ontario become so irresponsible? If it bows to politics we are all in trouble. We all need to be able to trust our public health system.
