Sabermetrics doesn’t hate the bunt- it hates sac bunts but it does support bunt hits which increase RE by .36 and increases WPA by 5%.

Ty Cobb would practice bunting for 2 hours a day, that’s roughly 2 hours more than most players today practice it in a month. Cobb was the all-time hits leader for 57 years and nobody cared if a lot of those hits were bunts.
