Yesterday we buried a lovely woman. Due to

there was no wake & our community couldn’t enter the church.
But the entire parish came out & lined the 2km road to graveyard to say goodbye to Betty Ryan.

The pulse of a people….
Ireland’s earliest St Patrick’s Day parade has taken place in Dingle (6am). A tradition dating back to the Land War of 1880s when the British authorities tried to prevent parades, banning gatherings “between sunrise and sunset.”
This is truly heroic. This evening Mícheál Keogh rescued four members of the same family, including a 10-year-old boy. Dingle Coastguard say his efforts prevented a horrendous tragedy. Read on...

Ireland’s earliest parade in Dingle... a tradition since the Land War of the 1880s when the British banned marching between sunrise and sunset... so the people of Dingle came out before daybreak! A great tradition and a mighty turnout at 6am.

100 years ago the Black and Tans arrested & imprisoned two Foley brothers for defying a ban on the Wren in Dingle. Martial law was in force but the brothers insisted on honouring the tradition.
Today the Sráid Eoin Wren played a tune outside the Foley house.
A year since he vanished…a mural celebrates Fungie the Dingle dolphin & the 37 years he spent gifting people joy at the mouth of the harbour. Paddy Ferriter the lighthouse keeper was first to spot the dolphin in 1983. Today the local community pays tribute to their lost friend.

You have to love this 86 year old’s take on life. Séamus Devane is possibly Ireland’s oldest silage contractor. Cuts 25 acres a day. Drove his first tractor in 1947 when he was just 14 years old. His energy, love and enthusiasm for what he does is inspirational.

Still no sign of Fungie. Search has been stood down for the night. Dingle boatmen are very worried now. The dolphin has never been missing for this length of time (4 days). 6 boats searched 10 mile stretch of coast today. Saw a dolphin pod feeding but Fungie not amongst them.
Fungie Latest: Team of 4 divers searched the mouth of Dingle Harbour today. Still no sign of Fungie. Mallow Search & Rescue also did sonar scan of the seabed. Boatmen felt if Fungie had died he would be in the inlets/caves there. No news is good news they say.

Children are devastated by the loss of Fungie the dolphin.
This little boy lives way up in Antrim. His mother sent this message to Kerry County Council, who sent it on to me. 6 year old James wanted to send his picture to Dingle “to help bring Fungie home.” Heartbreaking.

Concerns growing that Fungie the famous Dingle Dolphin is missing. He hasn’t been seen for two days, leading to speculation that he may have left or died. Boats have been searching but no luck so far. Hope is he is just hiding.
