it’s still kinda wild to me that there was a NiGHTS sequel with a full-on story, explained lore, voice acting and mo-cap cutscenes
it’s like, exactly what you’d expect from sonic team during this period, kinda angsty and goofy at that, but their commitment is admittedly charming
@BroskiBae
Really I think its biggest detriment was gameplay physics (not replicating the score attack feel of NiD was a huge mistake imo) and being a Wii exclusive. Loved that console with all my heart, but you can see how it held it back regarding its capabilities.
@ThatNerdTim
It was initially being developed for Xbox 360 and I believe PS3, but they switched to just the Wii midway through development, and I mean, yeah, it looks like a game half-hazardly scaled down for weaker hardware, especially with the cutscenes (which still run at like, 15fps lol)
@pingsley_
sonic team went ham with the mo-cap cutscenes at this time, between 06 up until unleashed, although they thankfully looked a bit more natural by the end lol
@BroskiBae
I was never a fan of how this game went out of the way to explain the lore. Dreams are inherently an abstract concept up to interpretation, so when you have to explain how everything works, it strips away that sense of mystery.
@BroskiBae
I still hope there will be a 3rd game. Reala deserve their redetempion arc, the game hints that they are victim of abuse from Wizeman but never got the chance to expand on that. I think with modern storytelling there could be a nice game
@BroskiBae
I always hated NiGHTS and Reala's designs in this game it's small but the added details on NiGHTS' jacket and the mask on Reala just throws off the whole balance of their designs it's so lame.
@BroskiBae
The biggest problem with this game is the gameplay as it crams in so many different gameplay styles. Some are fine like the Link Chain Challenges, and others can go die like the Will and Hellen parts.
