It’s so incredibly satisfying to finally be able to have a coherent conversation on the phone in Japanese without feeling like I’m horrifically out of my depth 😭😊

Unhappy every time I use them to speak, laugh, or cough. And I still need a rescue inhaler. Anyway. Idk. Medication instructions are difficult in other languages, especially when you’re not confident enough on the phone to ask for further clarification. Just needed to vent. (8)

Would make sense bc the inhaler has 60 individual doses; divided by 4 (2 per dose per day if I was understanding the instructions correctly) would put me at about 2 weeks, yeah? So. I think the cough has improved since I started doing that, but my lungs are still (7)

And lemme just say, not a fan of how shaky and anxious it makes me feel immediately after a dose. But like, I also am not entirely sure if that’s correct? I think it is, bc the doc said “yeah come back if it doesn’t improve when the Symbicort runs out in like 3 weeks” which (6)

So I’m still not entirely sure. For the first week or so I twisted it once for the one “huff” or whatever and then inhaled twice. Then bc the cough did not improve, and I was out of the pills they gave me, I figured I must’ve been taking it wrong, so I’m now twisting twice (5)

Then when I went home to actually do it, I looked at the instructions, and again, it said “1回2吸” and I thought, wait? Does that mean each time I take a dose, I have to inhale twice to get the full dose, or do I have to twist it for 2 inhalations? (4)

But then when the pharmacist explained it to me, I confused myself, because the inhaler thing is a bit weird; you have to twist it to sort of “load” the dose and then inhale it, then twist it back for the second dose and then inhale again. And I was like, okay, makes sense. (3)

Anyway bc this is in Japan I got a little confused about the instructions for Symbicort. The doc said 2 times a day, morning and night, 「一回2吸」. And at the time, I understood that to mean, each time I take the meds, I take two inhalations.

So I’ve had a cough for about 4 weeks now and I went to a doctor; they put me on 3 pills to be taken with each meal for a week and also Symbicort, which confused me very much, because what I’m pretty sure I needed as a new rescue inhaler, but that’s another point (1)
