Cool fall morning. Cozy fuzzy blanket. French press. Morning full of lectures and QI to learn and improve care for my patients.

There is an IV fluids shortage (0.9% MS & LR) due to hurricane Helene. Because of the shortage everyone should stop ordering routine maintenance fluids for the next 2-4 weeks. Because of good medical practice everyone should stop ordering routine maintenance fluids forever.

First month out of training: read six books (four non medicine). Caught up with family and friends I’ve missed. Plenty of time in the hammock. All is well.

Maybe getting an espresso maker was a bad idea. Or maybe it’s the ten shots I’ve had today so far.

Something oddly nostalgic hearing the Wednesday afternoon tornado siren tests.

Aaaaand that’s it. The year has been exactly as advertised in that I had no idea what I was in for. Such a great place to learn and train. So thankful for everyone teaching me and working to make me a trauma surgeon @erika_bisgaard @ArbabiSam @harborviewmc @bulgercot

I don't understand the idea of antipyretics masking fevers in the postoperative setting. Is there actually some data behind this or can I continue to smugly prescribe APAP ATC?

If I had a nickel for every time I got trapped in an elevator in the hospital I would have 10c. It isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

The journey from the left (med student) to the right (attending) is a long one that you cannot fully understand unless you have taken that climb. The days are long, but the years are short. It may seem insurmountable, but we continue to climb. Proud of all those on that journey.

Analysis of 80 potentially futile trauma transfers – goals of care are discussed in only 10% of them! How can we be better about talking to patients / families about prognosis and goals early on? @MackenzieCookMD @david_zonies #OHSUTrauma #JoTACS

Probably the best feature of the new Davinci 5 is haptics. Sadly my dreams when first hearing about the possibility of this feature at the DMD in 2016 to avoid concussions bedside asssisting is no longer relevant to me.
