Great game in Miami. Gotta love seeing an academic powerhouse like the University of Louisville succeed on the field of sport, it being nearly eight years since the last time the university lost its accreditation.

Referees look so earnest, so serious when they announce that "the previous play is under further review." They then look to see if a guy's arse or his elbow hit the ground first. I feel that the gravitas of video review would be enhanced if referees chanted these announcements.

Watching the BC-RPI hockey game. The commentator has mentioned BC's "blue collar attitude" about 6 times. It's 50 years since anything about BC has been blue collar. And BC hockey players? The only "blue collar" these kids have seen are on the US national team uniforms.

Most of these articles are read (downloaded) online by between 10 and 50 people within a year. If I am lucky, someone else might cite it in their article that will be read by the same 10 people as read my piece. It's disheartening, but it also misleads the public about "experts."

People crashed on Kushner for his 25 books comment. But here's a secret: as an academic "expert," each time I read 25 books on a topic I publish at least 1 article on the topic in a top tier peer reviewed journal. Then I ask for a merit pay increase. That's the higher ed game.
