Congratulations to Edie who has received her surplice today as she has completed her training and become a full member of our choir.

It’s the recognition that a chorister has completed this intensive training period and that they are ready to take a full part in the choir’s busy schedule.We are always extremely proud to share in and celebrate the achievements of our choristers as they reach this milestone.

Receiving a surplice is an important milestone in any chorister’s time in the choir. It marks the hard work done over many months learning about singing technique, becoming familiar with the choir’s repertoire of music, and gathering experience singing in services with the choir.

Today we celebrated by holding our own procession with handmade palm crosses around the church. Palm Sunday is a time of mixed sentiment because, although triumphal, it precedes the marking of events that led to the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus.

Today we celebrate the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. All four Gospels tell us how he rode into the city on a donkey and was greeted by a jubilant crowd shouting "Hosanna!" an exclamation of praise. They also waved palm branches, a symbol of victory and triumph.

We are SO excited to announce that we will be welcoming Her Majesty The Queen to the Cathedral on Maundy Thursday (28 March) as we host the Royal Maundy service. HM The Queen will be distributing the Royal Maundy gifts on behalf of His Majesty The King at this year's Service.
