We practiced with caskets that were stored outside our barracks building. To simulate the weight of honored remains, we’d toss several full sandbags into the belly of the casket and then, for hours, we’d go through our exact movements. Over and over and over. (thread)

Good question! 1. It’s run and written by a Black woman. 2. It’s about hoodoo, an African American tradition that’s often confused with voodoo or vodou. 3. We hire and pay Black actors a fair wage and give them lead roles. 4. It’s my (@missdefying) love letter to the culture.
