So is generative AI taking over in animation? Spoiler, I don't think it's happening for games, for the moment it's limited by technicalities of gathering, processing, and systematizing the data. But it's already scary.

Maybe drafts, crowds, or background characters can benefit from it, but anything custom requires a human touch. Ideally would be cool to optimize routine tasks, like blends between animations, or animation variations based on recorded data, and let people do the creative work.

AI on the other hand is able to generate "new" things, but only something that it was trained for, therefore it is by definition limited by the model and often creates a very "generic" and boring result.

With scripts, you can modify already existing animation, created by hand or from mocap, and keep all micro details of the character's performance, but apply some adjustments on top of it easily, and save some time.
