I sat down today and wrote 473 words in A Portrait in Shifting Light and I’m going to celebrate the shit out of that because it has taken me OVER A YEAR to be able to sit here and say, I really *finally* actually have words on a page again. ❤️❤️❤️

Today’s baking project(s). I had a can of pumpkin on hand so I used it. Pumpkin spice bread with a crumble top and maple glaze (it’s not terribly pretty but it smells good) and pumpkin spice cookies.

Clover wants to show off her new collar. It came with a matching leash. She feels very fancy, I assure you.

My weekend read. I love the setting (historical Spain, complete with the inquisition), the lush prose, and attention to detail. I’m not sure where this is going, but I’m eager to find out. This one is proving hard to put down. (The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo)

Today, I paused editing long enough to bake chocolate peanut butter banana bread.

It has been a long week and I feel the need to read something that I can just sit back and enjoy. I need popcorn-adjacent. I’ve also been told that this book is wonderful, so… I guess I’m finding out!

My next read. This won the Nebula Award this year so I knew I had to check it out. I’m not terribly far in yet but it’s an intensely unique concept and a marriage of macabre and cozy that truly delights me.

It’s been a minute since I’ve plowed through half a book in a day but here we are. I cannot put this one down.

I’m having a bit of a high pain day (overdid it with some yard work…) so I went to the library, because books are always the answer.

I have had an intensely hard time pulling myself out of this book. My family has had to remind me to do things like… eat dinner… and go to sleep. I am *obsessed* with all of it, from worldbuilding to characters. Holy hell, it’s been a minute since I’ve been this into a book.
This appears to be my next in-the-garden read. Keeping in mind, I just started it… I am *fascinated* by the worldbuilding so far. And my hummingbird friend has already checked out the book while I was reading so I figure that’s a good sign. Or something.

Hello, book people. What are you reading? I am about halfway through Grave Empire by Richard Swan and I'm really enjoying this one immensely.

Got home from worldcon late yesterday afternoon. Turned right around this morning and did first day of school stuff (5th and 9th grades and two new schools). I’m EXHAUSTED.

I’m going to pop into Worldcon on and off today. I plan on watching the Hugo Awards from whatever bar is doing that tonight. These will be your last chances to see me. If you want to, let me know TODAY.
