Due to the toxic nature of X and the fact that Elon Musk has become a political player with ideology opposed by team Faunaverse we will deactivate this account in 30 days. See you on cloudless skies.

Happy #WorldLizardDay from Eric the Cunninghams Skink. These long-lived social lizards live in hollow logs and stumps and are one of the only reptiles to show parental care, attacking predators to defend their young.

It's #WorldLizardDay and what better way to celebrate than with a Tree Skink happy in her hollow home. Remember that #HollowsAreHomes and if you have a fire, avoid using hollows and know where your "firewood" comes from.

Check out this Superb Lyrebird showcasing its incredible repertoire of mimicry! 🐦✨ Many wild birds use mimicry in their song, but the complexity of the Superb Lyrebird's calls is truly remarkable. 📽️ Via @jeremyfilmsthings on Instagram

OMG I found another Velvet Worm- this time right next to my house. They must have been here forever and I never turned on the search image because who looks for Velvet Worms in the Brigalow Belt South bioregion?

In exciting news from the Faunaverse HQ we found the first record of an Onychophoran in a whole bioregion. Velvet Worm from Coolatai NSW. This is like a 200km range extension for a PHYLA which can just outrun a snail.

How cute are Squirrel Gliders? These gliders need multiple tree hollows and rapidly disappear from environments without them. #Cute #WildOz #OzMammals

We love bin chickens because: 1. They're a majestic native animal whose natural habitat has been taken over by humans 2. They're super adaptable. As they've been displaced, they've learnt new skills to survive 3. They have learnt how to eat cane toads!

Logs on the ground aren't firewood. They're vital habitat for many of Australia's animals, providing shelter from predators and weather, basking platforms and perches. Here's a Liopholis modesta peeking from safety. #HollowsAreHomes #WildOz #Lizards

With Asian House Geckos (Hemidactylus frenatus) displacing native geckos over much of northern Australia we figured it's worth letting people know how to tell the difference. #Geckos #InvasiveSpecies #Feral #WildOz

The Faunaverse team spotted this resident of a large hollow while on our morning walk. The Boobook Owl (Nonox novaesellandiae) was a little annoyed by our banter. #HollowsAreHomes #WildOz #AusBirds

Every now and then I have a flash of panic as I remember this is all actually real. It’s insane that the worlds leaders haven’t explained to their peoples the magnitude of the threat

The limiting factor to the number of gliding marsupials (and so many other animals) is the availability of hollows. These Kreffts Gliders (Petaurus notatus) were using artificial hollows created in trees killed in the 2019-20 bushfires. #HollowsAreHomes

If you watch lizards (Like this Cunninghams Skink) for long enough, you will see them yawn. But why do they yawn? #WildOz #SocialSkinks #OzNature #Lizards @lizard_lab
