When Merilyn Simonds was in Burlington for an author event organized by A Different Drummer Books, I had a chance to meet her. She graciously signed our copy of her Bookmarked novel The Convict Lover and my copy of her new book Walking with Beth (a great read!).

Thanks to the hard work and persistence of the Nova Scotia Reading Circle, a Bookmark honouring the late Budge Wilson was installed at Dalhousie University. From selecting the passage from the short story “The Leaving” to the unveiling ceremony, they worked as a dynamic team.

Hikers in Hamilton visit the Bookmark for Rachael Preston’s novel The Fishers of Paradise. They read about Hamilton’s lost boathouse community dating back to the 1930’s. Preston makes that history come alive in her novel about the fictional Fisher family who lived there.

Canada is fortunate to have excellent bookstores like A Different Drummer in Burlington. These bookstores support Canada's writers by hosting events for them. On Canadian Independent Bookstore Day, why not support your local Indie?

Project Bookmark Canada is saddened to hear of the death of Alma Lee. As a board member, Alma shared her vast knowledge of Canadian literature and her common sense approach to problems. She gave wise counsel backed by extensive experience. With sympathy, The Board of Directors
