Lesson 5: Always do the right thing. The most important lesson in my opinion. When I lay my head on my pillow at night I don’t have to question or worry about my actions that day. Never wavering from it and it’s always so fulfilling. Winning and doing it the right way.

Lesson 4: Keep the main thing the main thing. We followed first principles thinking. We would identify our fundamental building blocks and develop them from the ground up. Our systems were always very simple but they always lead to big results.

Lesson 3: Take care of the people around you. This seems obvious but it’s a lot more rare than people want to admit. “People don’t leave jobs, they leave managers” . How true that saying is. I could’ve worked for this person forever. We don’t find long-term success alone.

Lesson 2: Always challenge the status quo. Most times the process is the process because that’s how they’ve always done it. Spending extra energy and ruffling feathers is often the last thing people want to do at work. Sometimes that is what is necessary for growth and success.

Lesson 1: Find solutions to problems . “Are you complaining to complain or are you complaining so that I can help you find a solution?”. How much better would we be if this was the mindset everywhere? I have to remind myself daily that complaining to complain is not helpful.

The large majority of people are following the status quo and doing things how they have always done them. I had the opportunity right out of college to work for an original thinker that never wavered from right & wrong. My career took off thanks to the lessons I learned.
Unsolicited career advice: If you find an original thinker with a strong moral compass, do whatever it takes to work with them. Both of those things are incredibly rare standalone, even rarer when together. They are also are traits that cannot be acquired imho.

🥺💙🐐😭. Ueck is the reason I love the Brewers as much as I do. I feel like I lost a childhood friend today. Growing up I’d listen to him almost every night on the radio. His delivery & storytelling made it seem like he was talking to only you each night. Ueck is a true legend.
