Congratulations to DOCTOR Lila Towers! Lila has officially earned her Ph.D. from Baylor while researching here. The Cyran Group celebrated her with traditions from both Baylor and Boise State, presenting her with a doctoral wizard hat and a cart designed just for her. Well done!!

On May 2, we celebrated a class of 22 graduating chemistry wizards, gave out several awards, and honored 4 graduate students for earning their Master's degrees. Congratulations to all of these students, we're proud to have been a part of your journeys!

2025 has been a great year so far for Jenée Cyran! In January she was awarded a grant from the DoD One of her students won the ACS Undergraduate Physical Chemistry Award. And she was also awarded the OUR Mentor of the Year Award! We're so lucky to have her in the department!

Not only did she win the 2025 award for Excellence in Biochemistry from our department, recent graduate Jasmine Baclig now has a publication for work that she did while working in Lisa Warner's lab. Check it out here:

Our department was well represented at the ACS Spring 2025 Meeting! Several students traveled to San Diego over Spring Break and presented their research. We're so grateful for these opportunities for our students, and are proud of all these chemists!

It's been a busy Spring for Kenzie! She traveled to Baltimore in Feb to present at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences 77th Annual Conference, successfully defended her thesis in March, and graduated with her master's degree last week. Great job Kenzie, we're proud of you!!

Some of Owen McDougal's team and students presented at the American Dairy Products Institute's Global Ingredients Summit. This two-day event brought together industry and academia to serve as a launching point for future innovation in the dairy industry.

On Jan 31, several department members showed up to support Chris Saunders and his band, Innocent Man, at their new album’s release party. Students, staff and faculty enjoyed a great show and took home some great memories and great merch, sold at a booth manned by Chem Club.

Congratulations to Konrad Meister, Ph.D. and Sophia Theodossiou, Ph.D! They've received a $50,000 grant from the NIH Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) Translational and Clinical Studies program to develop novel microneedles designed to deliver functional proteins.

Congratulations to chemistry graduate student Rylli Burton on the birth of her son!.Marcello Alessandro Salguero Burton was born on January 12th, weighing in at 6 lbs 9 oz and measuring 18.5 inches long. Both Rylli and Marcello are doing well, and we can't wait to meet him!

On Dec 6, we “swore in” two new chemical wizards. Kelso Hinrichs and Molly Gage finished up their chemistry bachelors degrees. They joined another of our chemistry majors, Kathryn Pierson, at commencement on Dec 14. Please join us in congratulating our new chemistry graduates!

On Nov 7th, faculty members Konrad Meister and Oliviero Andreussi joined Boise State School of the Arts to present BASH AIR in the Stein Luminary. It showcased the impact of smoke on the lungs, and included a paper plane/origami activity station and a smell and color experiment.
