If you love maps as much as we do, then you’re in for a treat! We’ve commissioned two new maps of Sanday, east & west from Yellow Publications. Printed at 1:16,000 scale, they’re water resistant, show every detail so perfect for walking, cycling and exploring.

"Simmer Dim" in Orkney refers to the extended twilight period during the summer months when the sun doesn't fully set, creating a long, bright evening. The sun dips below the horizon for only a few hours, resulting in an extended twilight until sunrise!

Our extra toilets and shower are now all ready for you to use. We now have 3 toilets and 2 showers. This will save any waiting when the cafe is busy and we’ve lots of motorhomes and campervans staying at our Aire. The laundry facilities will be added tomorrow.

I asked one of the island bird experts to come up with a list of Sanday birds so we could print a tick list of what you've spotted, I never imagined there would be over 250 different birds! This one is a sanderling, a small, plump, energetic wading bird. It’s is a winter visitor

How’s it Monday again already! We’re open all week as normal, Monday to Friday 11am to 8pm. We’ve got a new pizza for you to try this week, home grown Sanday rhubarb & goats cheese, we tried one last week and it was delicious!

Why not pop in a collect a copy of our beautiful new kids colouring book. There’s 20 illustrations of Sanday landmarks for you to colour, they are £7.50 and come with colouring pencils. We’re open all week as normal, Monday to Friday, 11am to 8pm.

5 years ago today is the day that we moved to Sanday! Who’d have thought it was also the start of a huge journey for many other people too. Our story was a little different to most in a very positive way, we were locked down somewhere we wanted to be!
