For the first time, this year, the coffee board in Rwanda set a floor price for cherry well above the 300 Rwanda Francs per kilogram (Rwf/kg) price that guides the bonus structure in the 300 Club. This year, they set the price at 410 Rwf/kg. Farmers are thrilled! (2/4)

This is an incredible initiative that proves just how strongly Ruth Ann and her company believe in the power of getting payment to the farmers and working capital to the cooperatives. (5/6)

The catch? The 300 Club bonus is ONLY paid to the cooperative if the board has agreed to pay at least 300 Rwandan Francs per kilogram of cherry to the farmers in the upcoming season. (4/6)

How does it work? Blueprint and other roasters get to opt in to an additional $.05/lb green coffee price, which sees an incredible 8x match from Ruth Ann and her company, to create a conditional $.45/lb bonus paid to the cooperative. (3/6)

One way is via a special conditional bonus. Bonuses are often paid to partners at origin, but too often, those funds fail to make it to farmers — only those higher up in the supply chain benefit. But the 300 Club ensures that farmers get their share. (2/6)
