The children kicked off their learning about Earth and Space this week by exploring an augmented reality 3D model of our planet. They also used their imagination to build a 'rocket' out of a cardboard box.

Year 1 had a busy start with a trip to London! The children used their Oyster cards as they moved through Kings Cross Station. They then made a vote at the Houses of Parliament; saw the King at Buckingham Palace and saw the sights of the city from the top of The London Eye.

Year 2 had a visitor during the holidays. We found footprints and an umbrella filled with snow! The children had to use their inference skills to work out what creature they thought had visited 🐧

Today, children in Year 6 have been looking at a new unit in computing all about handling data. After collecting some data of their own, they inputted it into Excel. Some went onto experimenting with how to change font, colour and even representing their data using graphs!

Year 5 have had a fantastic time launching their new topic of Hard Rock to Heavy Metal. They looked at a range of primary and secondary sources including flint and bones, fact cards and books. They are looking forward to learning more about the Stone Age!

It was wonderful to have our children back in school today. There was a great buzz around the school as many children engaged in their launch activities for their new themes. It was a pleasure to see so many happy, smiley faces! #ArchwayAttendance

An entertaining end to the autumn term here at @Bluecoat_Prim this morning with the staff pantomime to children. Wishing everyone at all of our Nottingham and Derby Archway schools a wonderful Christmas break with friends and family. See you all in the New Year. 🎄

Year 1 have been looking at the artist Paul Cummins and his incredible poppy instillation at the Tower of London. The children used clay to recreate their very own poppies on Remembrance Day.

Year 4 took part in a Science workshop this week. We thought about some amazing reactions and were inspired to wonder what made them happen. What a fantastic experience!

The Peacocks and Flamingos have been finding out about what festivals are celebrated and why. The children all had a go at holding and drawing patterns with a sparkler as part of our learning about Guy Fawkes.

This week in Nursery, the Ducklings have been learning about fireworks and how they are used as part of lots of celebrations. We watched a video of a firework display and the children talked about what colours they could see and what sounds they could hear!

Year 3 have started their computing unit of programming using Scratch. Today, they made a plan of what action their Sprite would complete and then tested out their plan to see if it was successful or whether they needed to debug any issues.

The Ducklings’ art work, from their recent learning, is now being proudly displayed in Nursery. We certainly have learned a lot about the seasons changing and what happens in autumn, the work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and the festival of Diwali.

The Ducklings have enjoyed creating their beautiful poppy artwork this week and we have now used this to make a wonderful Remembrance display in Nursery.

Reception have been learning about Diwali - The festival of light, the children have used different skills to create their own Diya lamps from clay and created Rangoli patterns using different materials.

Year 3 had a fantastic day of enrichment with our Egyptian visitor this week! They learnt a lot of new interesting and gory facts and were extremely engaged!

Year 2 have looked at what properties different materials have and which would be suitable for a bike shed. The children enjoyed working together to match the properties to the materials from around the classroom.

This week the children in The Nest enjoyed a wonderful sensory story outside to launch their new story 'We are Going on a Bear Hunt.'

Roll up! Roll up! It's the BPA Goose Fair! Year 1 had a fantastic start to the term by visiting the BPA Goose Fair. It was full of fun games, Hook-a-Duck and even pop corn from the pop corn machine! In the afternoon the children tasted hot dogs and mushy peas!
