We have seen an increase in demand for face to face support in 2025, mainly around the complex needs aspect of the homelessness community. We are seeing more veterans with complex needs falling in to homelessness in the Liverpool city region in 2025.

Are all veteran Services experiencing a spike in demand? We had a peak in April but have had to use a triage system this week for the first time in 2025 in order to handle the homelessness & crisis management referrals this week.

6 Different referrals for homeless veterans or veterans at risk in Liverpool this week, requests for our support have included those from Op Nova , Op Fortitude, Tom Harrison House, Family members and a self referral.

Due to the speed we work from the point of contact , which is much faster than average it can take a number of days before support and accommodation can be aligned by the local authorities and commissioned services. #Preventing #Suicide.

Always a lot more difficult to crisis manage these cases at a weekend, but we have successfully managed to accommodate and active a support plan for this homeless ex Green jacket veteran.
Homeless, rejected, broken, ashamed, that’s how yesterday’s case feels. Self medicating is a common trate for veterans with complex PTSD, unfortunately this one is post treatment for his addiction and a dangerous relapse now leaves him without support & accommodation.

Three homeless cases this week in Liverpol all with a combination of complex needs including mental health diagnosed, battlefield trauma, addiction & cPTSD. A combined 44 years service between all the three homeless veterans which the Block has been supporting this week.

Interesting facts about the lack of support for Veterans at this level. It’s ok for larger charities to sign post vulnerable veterans into the grass roots organisations. Just Transfer to other or completely terminate the risk. Black holes for veterans.

We currently have two self contained bedsit flats available in #Liverpool for #veterans at risk of homelessness or currently #homeless. The Block AFF supports early service leavers, those in transition & veterans. Accepting #OpFortitude & local authority referrals also.
