I wrote about a bunch of stuff. Some observations on last year, next year, the open scrimmage, and there’s even a couple of player breakdowns in there too.

We’ve seen how Miles has developed on offense over the past two years. Given Kreager’s feel, I’m confident he can add these types of shots to his game. If he can do that, he’s on track to being another dominant big man at Loyola.

His offensive repertoire needs development, but given the fluidity he moves with at his size, as well as his touch around the basket, that’s someone you bet on.

Kreager has a very high floor as a prospect because he’ll immediately be able to protect the rim and defend in PnR coverage as soon as he steps on campus. The big question will be what is he capable of on offense.

It’s noteworthy how similar Kreager is to Miles Rubin and Brayden Young as recruits. Big time shot-blocker, positional mobility on the perimeter, needs to add weight, strong finisher from the dunker spot, limited post-up game, but good touch around the basket.

The offensive upside is clearly there for Kreager because he’s got solid touch around the basket. He’s even shown some brief flashes of outside shooting. If he continues to progress in these areas, his offensive production could take off.

Kreager doesn’t have an advanced post-up game at the moment. Even against smaller matchups, D1 wasn’t focused on posting up Kreager. This school year, I’d like to see Kreager become a bigger threat with his back to the basket, incorporating more push shots and baby hooks.

D1 Minnesota also had a few highly-ranked scoring wings that controlled most of the touches, so Kreager didn’t receive many lobs or short roll opportunities. If Kreager played alongside a traditional pass-first PG, I think his offensive game could’ve looked much more potent.

D1 Minnesota used Kreager almost exclusively as a rim runner. He wasn’t given opportunities to operate DHOs and look for cutters like he’ll do at Loyola, so it was hard to get a feel for the processing aspect of his game.

Offensively, he was often positioned in the dunker spot where he’s a very reliable finisher with both dunks and push shots. Shot 46/62 (74.0%) on 2’s during summer ball.

He’s a strong defensive rebounder, but I wanted to see more intensity from him on the offensive glass. He’d too often be content getting boxed out, even with space around to make a move.

He did get beat in the post once or twice, but overall he’s very solid defending down low. Once he fills out his frame, he should become a defensive anchor down there.

Impressive mobility on the perimeter. Plenty of eye-popping moments where he’d completely swallow up a drive.

Kreager’s standout skill is his rim protection. 6-10 with a 7-0 wingspan. He racks up blocks without being overly eager to leave his feet and allowing offensive rebounds. Disciplined interior defender. Doesn’t fall for pump fakes or commit fouls at a high rate.

With those three in the fold, Loyola’s perimeter shot creation profile should more closely resemble those of the best mid-major offenses, while the offense as a whole should have a much higher ceiling next year.

I’d say Kayde is first and foremost a scorer, but his playmaking and defense are both reliable aspects of his game as well. Plus, Kayde’s been a key part of winning basketball. Drew will now have the option to keep multiple perimeter shot creators on the floor at all times.

The fact that Kayde shot 15-35 (43%) on 3’s last year is even more impressive seeing how many came off the dribble. The shooting with Kayde is definitely real. He didn’t get up many last year, but in his last year in HS, he avg’d 7.1 3PAs per game and was 102-262 (39%) on 3’s.

For Deywilk, 53% of his makes were assisted at CoC, which I think is exactly where it should be to optimize his skillset. For Kayde, he was at 45% ast’d last year. That’s partially lowered by garbage time minutes, but he’s clearly a guy that’s got some on-ball juice to his game.
