7. I love doing stories on people who have unique jobs or hobbies they are passionate about. I've long wanted to do a feature on Reid, who is widely know as a bird enthusiast in Yellowknife. I joined him bird watching one morning in July. 8/12

6. When I covered a court case involving several sexual offences I was interested to learn the young man had tried and failed to get help before he reoffended. It led me to look into the lack of treatment for sex offenders in the NWT. 7/12

"Spending time to make sure people don't commit these crimes in future is a no-brainer." A lot of sexual offences happen in the NWT, but getting help is hard.

3. Like many jurisdictions across Canada, the NWT is facing a drug crisis. Thus far, the NWT government's response has largely been to increase police budgets and enforcement. I was curious if that's the best approach. 4/12
cabinradio.ca
Many MLAs approve of millions in new spending to increase policing during the NWT drug crisis, but not everyone thinks that's an adequate response.

2. The findings from this study on how wildfires could release arsenic in and around Yellowknife was pretty alarming. It's an area that needs more research, especially as wildfires are expected to increase in size and severity. 3/12
cabinradio.ca
When wildfires burn near Yellowknife, what does that do to arsenic? One author of a new study says more research is needed, but initial estimates surprised him.

At the end of every year, I like to publish a list of stories I worked on that I am most proud of. Usually they are ones I worked really hard on, explored an underreported issue, or are just really interesting. In no particular order, here are my top 10 stories from 2024. 1/12
