Got my first EVER 12-0 Arena last night! Can't even count how many times I've choked at 11-0 over the years. Baneling Barrage missing at the top. Helm of Humiliation -> Zergling/Baneling for MVP

I usually do a board games list at the end of the year here also, but didn't play too many new ones this year. Twilight Inscription, Earth, and Ark Nova remain my favorites.

I also intentionally branched out of the genres I usually play this year which was eye-opening. Rhythm games and 2D platformers are usually genres I avoid, but the simplicity and high level of challenge in both ADOFAI and Celeste kept me around.

I played Satisfactory in EA, so it doesn't go in my main list, but I replayed it upon 1.0 launch this year. It's a genre-defining masterpiece which I think gets overlooked since it's a niche genre that's hard to understand if you've never played it (factory-building).

I try to keep my 200+ hour games to a minimum these days, but World was worth it. Super satisfying combat/loot loop which ends with a string of some of the best boss fights in any game I have ever played. Might make my top 10 of all time list.

Best video games I played for the first time (but not necessarily released) this year:. 1. Monster Hunter: World.2. A Dance of Fire and Ice.3. Celeste.4. Nine Sols. HM's: Monster Hunter: Rise, Talos Principle 2, Void Stranger. My pick for 2024 game of the year: Satisfactory.
