My first pregnancy was a deeply transformative experience. It took me a couple of months of heavy research before I decided that foregoing professional care was the right path for me. I wanted to create the safest, easiest birth I could. Physiological birth is that.
EVERYONE thinks they will be different. EVERYONE thinks they can advocate for the birth they want & EVERYONE thinks they couldnt possibly get sucked into the spiral of interventions. “I am too educated, too strong, too informed of the laws & my rights” Ive heard it too many times
Your first pregnancy isn’t a trial. Just because you have never done it before doesn’t mean your body doesn’t know how. Do your first the way your heart desires and don’t settle.

Homebirth is legal in all states. No matter what the presentation is. Whats illegal in a lot of states is having a licensed birth attendee at said breech birth. No one can force you go to the hospital and no one can force you to have a C-section.
Delayed cord clamping vs optimal cord clamping. A lot of hospitals have added delayed cord clamping due to frequent request. However their policy is to wait just a minute before cutting. Optimal cord clamping is waiting for white, when all of the baby’s blood is back in it’s body
A few generations ago, homebirth was the norm. Nowadays, it's rare for anyone, including OBs, to have witnessed a homebirth. This is devastating for future generations. Fear surrounding birth has multiplied across generations due to trauma inflicted by over-medicalization.
A nuchal cord, when the umbilical cord is wrapped around the babies neck, looks scary but isn’t usually anything dangerous. Our babies get oxygen through their cord & so while it appears that they are being strangled they actually aren’t.

I wish more people talked about this. Most women even the ones who have had an unmedicated birth still have management of the third stage of labor (birth of the placenta) with Pitocin and its usually completely unnecessary and is massively detrimental
@tallowmom
Literally listening to an Evidence Based Birth podcast rn speaking about the upkeep of oxytocin in post partum — especially for mothers exposed to Pitocin during labor and how it correlates to PPD. Synthetic hormones can really make or break your postpartum experience 🥲
Your pelvis isn’t one solid bone. It is made up of several bones & moves. A narrow or small pelvis means NOTHING! You built this baby you can birth this baby.

Everything about a hospital goes against nature. Everything is foreign, strangers everywhere, bright, noisy. No wonder we see so many birth complications in hospital settings.
Both wild and domesticated animals seek a quiet, dark and safe environment to give birth. Women similarly have the same instinct as they approach their due date; they seek to thoroughly clean & organize their home to make it safe for new life, we popularly coined it “nesting”
Let’s start normalizing due months.
Did you know that less than 5% of babies come on their due date with the majority coming AFTER. Every body is different, every cycle is different so it’s insane to think that everyone will gestate at the same rate.
I hear women regularly voicing their fears of their body being ruined from pregnancy and birth. But has anyone ever told you that you may feel the best you have ever felt in your body?

I can not stress this enough. Invest in your birth. Find a childbirth education course that focuses on physiological birth and ask all the questions. Bonus points of that person isn’t profiting off of your birth.
Water in the birthing world is known as nature's epidural because it provides pain relief & relaxation. Buoyancy reduces the pressure on the body while warm water can increase circulation & release endorphins, offering a natural form of pain relief.

Birth is an initiation, maybe the greatest one of life. This initiation of birth is an event to be eagerly anticipated for the inner gifts that it bestows.
@tallowmom
Absolutely agree. Anyone who is following state mandated regulations isn’t to be trusted with something so precious. When push comes to shove they will almost always chose to protect their licensure.
More often than not medical providers act without proper informed consent, they live under the “I know best” umbrella and it’s simply unacceptable.

Continuous fetal monitoring. Strapping women to machines. Confining them to a bed. Restricting their movement. This does nothing to help birthing women or babies.

Placenta consumption has roots in traditional medicine and cultural practices. Some believe it has mystical or spiritual significance, associating it with life force and vitality.

Came here to the same thing. Unnecessary interventions combined with threats is what the real cause of the high csection rates. This awful story of obstetric violence is painful common.
I fell into a black hole of crafting supplies but I am resurfacing with things much more organized. I made a few dream catchers and a new pattern for knitted pants. Yarn is happiness.
If you chose to go into a hospital bring some of your favorite things. Bring your blanket and pillow. Bring some mood lighting. Bring your own laboring clothes. Make it as homey as possible so your primal brain can relax into the familiarity.

Just because you are a parent doesn’t mean you stop being a sexual creature. The opposite in fact as sex it is how we became parents & is a crucial part in our overall wellness.
Let’s talk about this idea so many people hold that faster is somehow better. Your body will birth your baby in the amount of time that your body needs. Speeding things up with various interventions doesnt mean your labor is going to be smoother, easier, gentler or anything else
Squeezing a comb during labor is a form of acupressure that stimulates pressure points in the hands, particularly the webbed area between the thumb & forefinger.

Birthing is not easy. But neither is raising tiny humans. Pregnancy & birth gets us ready for the journey ahead. Giving responsibility & control over to someone else during the early stages & hoping to take over later is like presenting a school project that your partner did.
All of these women being wounded and traumatized unnecessarily is beyond upsetting. Doctors giving bad information like your pelvis is too small while I get censored for giving helpful science backed information has me pulling my hair out. Rant over.
Nothing is without risk so let’s work to minimize that risk. We can lessen the small risk birth poses by being conscious about our health and overall wellness.

Birth isn’t a gentle process. Our babies are literally squeezed through our body, moving our bones. They & their cords are more durable than we think. Trust birth. We are made for this.
Some ways to help navigate pain during birth: Water. Vocalizing the pain out. Pulling and or pushing on something stationary. Squeeze a comb. Assisted counter pressure. Massage.

Surrender isn’t giving up. Its releasing the need for control. Accepting what is. It's about letting go of resistance and trusting in the natural flow of life.
Birth demands surrender. And it’s in the surrender where ease lies.
If you & your baby are healthy & thriving at 42 weeks it’s safe to say you & your baby will still be healthy & thriving at 42+1 weeks. An extra day doesn’t change your level of risk.

Continuous fetal monitors is completely unnecessary. The only thing it continuously does is cause unnecessary stress. Request for intermittent monitoring. It’s more accurate.
