One of the understated heralds of autumn on the home patch, a random Reed Warbler paying a passing visit to Tattenhoe, Milton Keynes this morning. Silent but showing well. One of the scarcer passage warblers here but undoubtedly many more missed in recent years. @bucksbirdclub

The @spurnbirdobs garden added some interest for insects in the afternoon, including a male Banded Demoiselle at the pond and a Clouded (and rather battered!) Yellow feeding on ragwort before heading into Church Field. #Spurndamselflies #Spurnbutterflies

A distant Glossy Ibis heading south over the Humber was the undisputed bird of the day from Spurn while Canal Scrape continued a good run of more common species showing well, including 13 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Snipe, Ruff and 2 Comorants. #Spurnbirds @spurnbirdobs

A cloudy lunchbreak walk of Kilnsea and The Triangle was quickly brightened by finding this Wood Warbler in the treetops of Kilnsea Churchyard, eventually showing well in some stunning afternoon sunshine by the Crown and Anchor car park. #Spurnbirds @spurnbirdobs @RareBirdAlertUK

After about 2 weeks without any sightings until yesterday, it was good to catch this female Purple Hairstreak by Kilnsea Churchyard today. Worn but still showing some colour, blissfully unaware of the Migrant Hawker it was sharing the trees with! #Spurnbutterflies @spurnbirdobs

Another odonata bonanza in and around Spurn today featured a female Red-veined Darter and a male Keeled Skimmer (3rd Spurn record) a short distance apart in North Field and just outside the @spurnbirdobs recording area later on, a Lesser Emperor at Skeffling. #Spurndragonflies

Finally bumped into my first 2 Willow Emerald Damselflies of the year along the trails at The Point yesterday, along with 2 Small Red-eyed Damselflies. Presumably recently-arrived migrants or windswept individuals from across the Humber. @spurnbirdobs

After the brief one from the Canal Scrape pool a few weeks ago, it was good to catch up to this more "twitchable" Lesser Emperor Dragonfly at Clubleys at Spurn this morning, although mobile and not fondly met by the more familiar Emperors. #Spurndragonflies @spurnbirdobs

Mean-looking skies across the Humber produced a funnel cloud over Lincolnshire (viewed from Spurn) around 17.25, though only lasting a minute or two and soon shrouded by rain. @TorroUK

Waders took the spotlight at Spurn today, with excellent views of a summer-plumage Knot and a slightly more distant Wood Sandpiper on Canal Scrape plus a White-rumped Sandpiper again among Dunlin and Golden Plover on the Humber near the Warren gate. @spurnbirdobs #spurnbirds

Some more Kilnsea bug hunting was pleasantly interrupted by news of this male Red-backed Shrike by The Warren at Spurn this morning. An absolute cracker! #Spurnbirds @spurnbirdobs @RareBirdAlertUK

Not much change birdwise today but Migrant Hawkers entered the Spurn dragonfly scene for this year with at least two around Kilnsea at midday, including this one. Small Red-eyed Damselfly and a Purple Hairstreak by the Crown and Anchor in the evening too. @spurnbirdobs

After much more distant views earlier this week, it was great to see a female Purple Hairstreak much lower in the trees near Kilnsea Churchyard this morning and after a squall with a monster shelf cloud in the afternoon, 2 Roseate Terns kindly passed by @spurnbirdobs. #Spurnbirds

As another Swift movement kicked off this morning, this Bee-eater performed some incredible flybys and aerobatics as it toured the Warren area at Spurn, eventually heading south after a brief visit to the Driftwood area too. #Spurnbirds @spurnbirdobs

Under more Swifts racing through, a Purple Hairstreak showed briefly in the treetops of Kilnsea Churchyard, 2 male Red-veined Darters were around the north end of the peninsula and several Hummingbird Hawk-moths were on the go between the Triangle and Point today. @spurnbirdobs

After the heavy rain cleared, butterflies soon perked up in the late afternoon at Spurn, with the area's 2nd White-letter Hairstreak and 3rd Purple Hairstreak both around the treetops near the Kew viewing area, though often distant and mobile. #Spurnbutterflies @spurnbirdobs

No shortage of butterflies around the Spurn area at the moment with new broods emerging and the huge influx of white butterflies arriving off the sea. A few aberrations among the Ringlets too, some with asymmetrical patterning or extra spots on the wings. @spurnbirdobs

Despite quiet skies, there was a great range of birds and bugs around The Warren area at Spurn this morning including a male Small Red-eyed Damselfly, 2 Siskins stopping by, Ruby-tailed Wasp and easily the highlight of the bunch, a perched male Red-veined Darter. @spurnbirdobs

Some slightly more inland #vismig of Crossbills with 3 heading west through Kelsey Lakes, Burstwick, East Yorks this morning. Started with this fairly high bird, then 2 others only about 15-20 feet off the ground which I sadly didn't have the camera ready for! @RareBirdAlertUK
