You can be a fan how you want to, but if your view of sports is “win a championship, or it's a failure,” you will be miserable 99% of the time.
There can't be a fan base in the NBA suffering from Stockholm Syndrome more than Bulls fans. I can't think of another major market that has so many sheep flocking with excitement for the 12th worst team in the Association. There needs to be a book written on this someday.
