3/3 We investigated the context-dependent links between predation, CORT and fitness. We found that baseline CORT levels were positively associated with reproductive investment and that 📈 predation risk was linked to plastic adjustments of CORT levels. Read the 📰 for more info!

6/6 #AnimBehav2023 Our study provides novel insight on the use of prior experience in guiding #prey escape decisions. As we only tested human approaches 🚶, further studies are now needed to examine whether these results can be extended to taxonomically diverse predators 🦅🐺🦝🦊

5/6 #AnimBehav2023 Adjustment of escape behaviour was state- and context-dependent. Experienced females were more prone to habituate, likely assessing 🚶 risk better. Females nesting under higher predation risk 🦅 also habituated, in agreement with the risk-allocation hypothesis

4/6 #AnimBehav2023 We did not observe generalized habituation of ♀️🦆 to repeated human approaches 🚶. Instead, incubating female eiders differed in their adjustment of FID to prior experience: habituating, sensitizing or staying consistent in their escape #behaviour

3/6 #AnimBehav2023 We repeatedly measured ♀️ eider FID during a breeding event @Tvarminne 🇫🇮. We expected ♀️ to habituate to repeated human approaches, progressively identifying humans as non-life-threatening. We further tested whether habituation was context- or state-dependent
