The title probably doesn’t do it any favours, and the slow pacing will definitely put some people off, but for those of us chasing that classic J-horror vibe in 2025 then this is about as close as you can get. Ryota Kondo is a new cinematic voice to keep a close eye on for sure!

The VHS tape found footage is used in a really interesting way too. This isn’t your usual jump scare stuff. It’s dark, it’s bleak, and it’s really menacing. More concerned with presenting the sense of unease rather than any real danger. It’s ambiguous and it sticks with you!

Like many of us, it’s clear Ryota Kondo has studied the works of Kiyoshi Kurosawa to death! Everything from the pacing, the framing, even the performances are so reminiscent of Kiyoshi’s work, and I love it for that! It’s got more to it as well though. Something distinctly new!

This film is so underrated! A Lynchian spin on Silent Hill that nails the mix of nightmarish mystery and gnarly horror. Ray Wise leans hard into his Twin Peaks mode, and Lin Shaye is frustratingly good. It scared me silly 20 years ago when I first saw it but still hits hard today

On paper this 2 hour arthouse experimental film about a man giving up his identity to live with a large cardboard box over his head could be overwhelmingly pretentious, but there is so much more to this story than meets the eye. Thrilling, funny and genuinely thought provoking!.

Ooooooooooooh my gosh! This is easily one of my favourite Johnnie To films! A woozy mix of heroic bloodshed, romanticised brotherhood, melodramatic gunplay and a whole lot of neon! Leon Lai and Lau Ching-wan are both so damn good in it! I can’t wait for this release 🙌.
Johnnie To came late to the blood-splattered hero film which ignited a golden age of Hong Kong cinema in the 1980s, but he gave us one of the genre's most exuberant and unrestrained achievements. A HERO NEVER DIES is coming soon on Blu-ray with new subtitles & packed with extras.

This film is so much fun! Sean Byrne is 3 for 3 on bonafide bangers for me! His films are all dark and twisted, but they have such unique personalities. This one is a boatload of fun thanks to Jai Courtney’s gleefully unhinged performance. Film of the summer! #DangerousAnimals
