1) Jose Ramirez just signed a third extension. We should be celebrating. Instead, I'm asking: why is Cleveland asking fans to celebrate Jose's loyalty while refusing to match it with their own investment in winning? Thread đ§ľ

Shantz is a guy I feel never got his HOF case heard A living relic, didnât know he was managed by Connie Mack
Drop whatever you're doing, folks The great Bobby Shantz, age 100, autographs his 1952 @Topps card. Shantz is a legend: ⢠1952 AL MVP ⢠8x Gold Glover ⢠1958 World Champion ⢠Managed by Connie Mack (!!!) ⢠Played for the Philly *and* KC Athletics https://t.co/lGXIqS1kFI

You could quibble and go with someone like Tris Speaker or Nap Lajoie (on the position player side) or pick Bob Feller, and none of that would be wrong But in modern times it's Jose with a clear lead over everyone else, and it's no longer close

Jose Ramirez, if he stays healthy, will be known as the greatest player in franchise history. What a player.

Very poorly handled by the Pirates
I wonder, did the Cards do this Wainwright/Pujols/Yadi? Dodgers to Kershaw?Tigers to Miggy? The list goes on and on. If this is my last year, it would have been nice to meet the fans one last time as a player. Talk to them about my appreciation for them over the years. Shake that

There are most definitely many better right fielders
@CREID2852 Itâs true. and there are not 15 better RFers

and yes, I do understand the money spent will get paid much later when we have no payroll commitments, but this team should not be sitting on its hands https://t.co/uv0XuaCbHg

I am very happy Jose is staying in Cleveland I remain furious that this front office is cowardly and ownership is cheap, and this deal doesn't change those feelings They should have spent that $100M to improve the team now

âIf you limit your analysis to a particular playerâs peak, then of course theyâre going to look good compared to their contemporaries (who had slightly different peaks)â -Bill James I am absolutely not rooting for Felix to get into the HOF, it would be an historically bad choice
The modern baseball world should be rooting for Felix Hernandez to get into the HOF If he gets inducted, it will set a new precedent for modern starting pitchers to get inâŹď¸

I should be happy about the JRam extension, and I am... But like, Cleveland has spent a grand total of $7,900,000 on Free Agents this offseason, the offseason after they finished 28th in scoring It's just a reminder that they're squandering an all-time discount, and that sucks

Itâs too early to design the statue What if Joseâs greatest moment comes in the future?
JosĂŠ RamĂrez is a Cleveland Guardian for life. It's time to design the statue. On the latest contract negotiations and the legacy of a player who found a city and a franchise he wanted to call home for his entire career:

Jose Ramirez will be remembered as a Cleveland Guardians legend (he already is one). Now, can the ownership and front office please attempt to build a winning team around him? I'm talking World Series contention winning, not 'sneak into the playoffs with 85 wins' winning.

Not surprising I think the Jose extension shows the team is done (well maybe another extension) and is just gonna wait out until Spring
ICYMI, our @TommyPecoraro has a quick report from last night's Rubber Ducks' banquet with a longer write-up to follow. Interesting insights from Guardians PoBO Chris Antonetti

3) Here's the real fear: in 2029, Jose won't be an MVP candidate anymore. He'll take up an even bigger % of our tiny payroll. And we STILL won't have built a championship team around him. Read the full breakdown below:

2) The core issue isn't Jose. It's timing. He's locked up through 2028 already. We could've waited 3 years to see how he ages, then paid market rate for ages 36-39. Instead, we're gambling on his late 30s right now.
