Requirements engineering (speaking to the #HCI crowd) is the SE equivalent of "How do you know you've built what you were supposed to?" It involves talking to people, and listing out what end result must do - Lots of overlap with HCI. It's how I've found a home in a SE department

I have new SE Education research showing the differences between how professionals and students view requirements engineering. RE is tough without experience and students aren't getting it outside of the classroom. Alumni report RE is interwoven with many SE areas. Link below.

For those still taking the long journey to a PhD -- you've got this. I'm one more person in your corner cheering for you just as everyone cheered for me along the way. Make sure you take some time to celebrate the small successes.

We’re running a survey of researchers impacted by the pandemic. We’re interested in those who planned/conducted prototype, device, or design workshop studies with participants. See the survey for more information:

This paper makes an important statement about how we can't view designing for older adults as strictly an accessibility challenge. Getting older is not a disability. Designing for older adults supports designs that benefit everyone. Check out @OatBran9's 5 min summary here

Curious about makerspace formation, older adult makers, and/or independent living? I'm a co-author on a CHI 2021 paper, "Studying the Formation of an Older Adult-Led Makerspace" with @Amanda_Lazar, @alisha_pradhan, @katiesiek, and @aeleitch. Check it out:

I'd like to thank @IULuddy for the Luddy Service Award, which is given to recognize the service of a graduate student in the department. This award should really be shared with everyone who has chipped in to make the department (and world) a better place. Pay it forward, friends.
